FYI, that appears to not be how it goes. The Earth tends to heat up a bit before an ice age, so if one is around the corner, the global climate will get hotter and hotter until about 10 years before the ice age, and then global temperatures will drop drastically until it sets in.

I have read about the rather interesting theory that global warming causes ice ages. While seemingly counter intuitive it has a neat explanation. Hotter temperatures means more evaporation which comes down as mounds and mounds of snow. Too much snow and even your super warm summers can't melt it all. It's like a mall parking lot where they pile up all the snow in one corner. That snow sometimes doesn't melt until June.

So you get these mountains of snow that don't go away in summer which end up starting a local cooling which advances year by year south until you got a runway freeze.

In sum, a vote for Bush is a vote for an new ice age.

An ice age would be awesome (I want to say cool), because we could cope with it well I think.

A mini-ice age, yes. A "major ice age", I think would wipe out a good section humanity.

And mindmetoo, not to get political, but human beings account for 0.2 - 0.3% of greenhouse gas emissions. It's not helping anything, but it's unlikely to be the cause of a global catastophe. (I'm not defending Bush by any means! I'm just sharing some research I did on this)

After the worst spring in recent memory, one fine day followed by three crappy days (yes, Mrs. Cleaver, I'm cognizant of the 'filth' filter), I'm stocking up on easy-care short-sleeved shirts. Two or three a day in these parts, especially in a uni so cheap they make you pay for your own office fan, and air-con, forget it.. Arrghh.

We'd better start building those greenhouses if we're not going to starve.. :)

It provides an interesting leadup to the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" which pretty much describes what will happen if an Ice Age hit.

Looks like it'll be worth a gander.

jae.

I state unconditionally, that this spring was cooler than last year's spring, and cloudier and rainier.

Only hard stats could dissuade me from my observations and memories of the two seasons.

Yet the Koreans I talk to say it's warmer this year, then say it's getting warmer every year, showing their deductive reasoning from the Korean belief in the overly simplistic incrimental hypothesis few scientists hold about global warming.

Where could one get statistics for comparison? (though spring isn't over yet)

I often find the long term forcast in Korea way off. Even the short 3 day forcast are off. I hope they are correct, but I wouldn't bet you an ice tea on it.

yeah 2000 was bad but 96 was the worst for me. First summer here hot as you know what, no a/c, culture shock and I was sick. Miserable summer

Swear summers here are worse than in Austin even though Austin averages 10F higher (98-105F) and the summer is 2x long. Thank God 1) I have an a/c and 2) I'll be on a beach for the rainy season

Well you guys can't beat July and August in the Midwestern U.S.. Temps near the 105 F mark. 100% humidity. Puts the comfort index near 115.

I've had many years of so-called training to get through anything in Korea.
