Phuket is the most expensive of the lot but for my money the best too. If you want to go out at night and shop as well than look to Patong Beach. If you want more quiet look to just about any of the others.

You can head off to phi phi for like a 3 day trip if you want more quiet. All scuba goes off the same spot in the south of the island but all the dive shops will pick you up and drive you there.

If you're looking for a drop dead beauitful hotel for under 75 a night on Patong check out the Patong Merlin Beach. It's near the end of the strip, so quite, but only a 5 minute walk to all the fun. And the pools, sweet sweet sweet. Book it through royal orchid saves lots oh cash on the room. Just be careful though there are 3 hotels on the island. Make sure you get the name exact.

Not the most flattering site. Been there 3 times. Wife demanded we return for our honeymoon. I do recommend rooms on the 2nd floor.

Yes--not as bad as October, but still quite wet.

Samui isn't wet at this time of year - Phuket will be, though, I think.

Even raining today in Bangkok, as it appears to be monsoon season up here as well.

Wet and Dry seasons do not occur at the same time in Thailand.

Western and Eastern peninsulas seem to have contrasting seasons.

But don't be afraid of the 'rainy' season as it will most likely rain only for a couple of hours in the afternoon but the prices are accordingly adjusted for the season. Can be an affordable trip!

have fun.

I am currently sitting in a computer room in BK waiting for the bus to take me to the airport. I spent the past four days in Ko Samet and had an awesome time.

First off,

The trip from BK takes to Ko Samet takes about 5 hours in total. We left BK on a minibus at 3 pm and arrived on the docks at about 7 pm. We waiting from 30 mins and then took another 30 mins to reach the island.

NOTE: Do not pay anymore than 300 Baht for the minibus from BK to Ko Samet (which includes the ferry). Although I did get scammed for the slow ferry ride back. (50 Baht) They said I had to catch the 12 pm boat???

In Ko Samet you must pay 200 Baht for the Park Fee. When you arrive on the island just walk about 10 minutes and cut down on the beach. That way you avoid paying the fee.

I reccommend staying at Tuk's. I paid 250 per night for a nice place with a shower. You must make sure to visit Jeb's for the nightly buffet. The food is awesome and cheap.

You like RUM? Try the buckets. WHEEW too many for me. We ended up playing drinking games and getting shit faced.

WEll good luck on the trip. I really enjoyed myself. If you have any other questions PM me.

I avoided paying the fee by arriving too late at night. Very Happy

indiglo,

5 hours from BKK to Samet? Hmm, I could be mistaken but seemed shorter than that. More like 2-3 hours?

Glad you had a good time anyway. Yeah and watch out for ripoffs. Rumor has it, people like money. Wink

I think 5 hours is dead on. The bus was 4 and with the wait and short ferry trip another hour seems about right.

anyone here in Thailand now?

I am thinking of hitting Krabi, Phi Phi and then Phuket - leaving on Saturday.

I really like the 1 day snorkelling tour from Ko Phi Phi. That part between phi phi ley and turtle island is great!

Might take a boat over to Ko Hai and Lanta as well.

Actually in Krabi (Ao Nang) right now but it's not too good weather wise.

It's alike a ghost town here as it's low season.
