Avoid it. I rang them to ask what the paye was for their camp, and they said to send in a resume first. I said no way i aint gonna bother unless I know what the salary is. Anyway they begrudgingly told me it's a mere $500 a week. I said you gota be joking, and hung up. if thats what they are going to paye the poor suckers who who will teach then the managers and organizers are going to make off with a packet.
any outfit that would not advertise their salary, and ask like they did with me to send a resume first has gotta be a bit shonky. You more as likely wont get payed on top of it,
Camps are becoming more popular now, and there are a lot of outfits out their doing the organizing. Some are good, but some aren't. seems to be a good wicket for the kyopos who speak both korean and english. Anyway like I said watch out for the Chung Ang one. I know as I write this there will be some dummy who as sure as hell will sign up for it, thus giving the organizers a reason to congratulate themselves for using sly tactics that paye dividends |

Well, the other things aside, the pay sounds decent actually. $500 US per week? That's 2.3 mil won per month. If they include housing that's really quite a good salary.
They might also want to see your resume first because a lot of places offer higher salaries to those with experience, certification, etc. |

2.3 a month, a good salary? maybe. If your just working a hokwon job then its not too bad.
BUT
Marista, have you ever done a camp? A 2 days camp? a one month camp?
You work pretty much 24/7. Its rediculous. Honestly i've been to ones where i'm sleeping (no jokes plz) with the kids and have to walk tohem to the potty.
2.3 is decent for 5-6 hours a day. Double that for a camp and maybe i'd consider. |

No, never done a camp. Sorry I misunderstood, I thought it would be like a regular hagwon only in summer or something.
What's wrong with 2.3 for a hagwon though? Sounds pretty good to me. |

What is wrong with asking for a resume first? They have to see your experience and education before knowing how much to offer. |

nah 2.3 for a hogwon is fine (think i said that) but i was refering to the camp. Usually camps will pay you more because ppl know its way more effort. |

Nothing irritates me more when a school wants your resume and letters of reference and copies of your passport and sample lesson plans, and photographs before they even tell you what the contract conditions are.
To me, that is a warning sign when they refuse to be up front about hours per week, housing, paid vacation and any other aspects related to the position.
Very unprofessional.
I've sent e-mails to schools telling them what I think about that but it doesn't matter - they never reply and the next sucker off the plane will take the job. |

I just got the word on this job. I believe it is simply a hogwon hosting a camp at Chung-Ang.
Cheers. |

Your warning is based on them asking for a resume first, or not advertising their salary?
Who is running the show? Do they have references of past teachers that they have employed? What's the rest of the benefits look like? What's the schedule? Housing? How long is the camp? Did you qualify them on anything else other than what you posted?
Please people, before blacklisting or warning on here, please put some effort into qualifying the gig more thoroughly. So much misinformation gets spread on here about different gigs based on crumb-levels of research and assumption.
That's just being plain ignorant to potentially legit businesses and teachers that want solid research.

This alone makes me question the source.
I can't believe that I just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading and responding to this nugget of useful info. |

i work for chungang's elementary school and i get paid summer vacation. i was scared i'd get asked to do a camp but i haven't been asked....so it's probably just being hosted by chungang. if it was their camp im pretty sure yours truly wouldn't be going on a nice long vacation. that said, the offer is standard these days. the golden age of the camp cash grab is gone. but they are still a good way to save money and meet good people. a great way to start a work stint in korea and network. especially for fisrt timers. |
