The summer is here and this cat is set to travel throughout the land of the morning calm

Problem 1 being that I am currently in Hagwon Hell and only get the weekends free.

Problem 2 being I live in Incheon which seems to be the farthest point from all the really cool places in Korea.

So I ask you, my fellow EFL brothers and sisters, what are some good weekend trips from Incheon?

Have a look at this thread:

http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=9093&highlight=incheon+beach.

We had a trip to Muido which was really nice, also been to Uil-wang-ni beach behind the airport which was alright.

THAT'S THE FACT, JACK!

Incheon is on the northwest coast; Geoje Island is on the southeast coast. Cool

Yet the distance isn't all that great. There's a Seoul-to-Busan bullet train now, and a 40-minute ferry to the island. It's no farther than Canadians in Toronto considering going to Montreal for the weekend.

South Korea is quite a small country. The barriers to travel are largely psychological. Get up after dawn, catch a bus or two, and be nearly anywhere on the peninsula by lunchtime saturday.

Plus buses and yeogwans are dirt cheap and shouldn't inhibit anyone from considering weekend jaunts about.

Take off this weekend. Just do it!

If you haven't been to Kanghwado you might consider checking it out.

Kanghwado

I can't remember if this temple is actually on G/Kanghwado or a smaller neighbouring island...

Edit:

Oh, I see my second link answers the question in the third:

Quote:
Depending on how much time you have, another temple worth checking out is not on Kanghwa-do, but located off its western coast on the small island of Songmo-do. Although this temple compound is small, there is some superb painting on the eaves of the various buildings. One of the more interesting sites in the compound is a 10-meter high rock carving of Kwansum Posal, the Goddess of Mercy.

And all this time I thought it was just a freaky portrayal of Buddha. Embarassed
[Man, that goddess has a butt-ugly nose!]

I have gone there. It's on a neighbouring island. Good place for a day trip, but not good to stay overnight.

Thanks for all the replys guys.

Definitely given me some good ideas for weekend trips this summer.

Hey VanIslander, what happened to your offer to exchange housing\guide information? I'd loved to take you up on your offer, though methinks you might not be that enthusiastic to see Yeonsu, "the bad part of Incheon."

If you think Yeonsu-gu is the bad part of Incheon then you haven't seen the bad part of Incheon...
