If you're going to Saipan. you might as well stay on the plane for an extra 30 minutes and go to Guam instead. More to do. The airport side of the island is not that great, all "comercialized" but if you drive to the other side of the island, more rain forest type scenery and dive sites. Car rentals are cheap if you shop around. One place is "Cars Unlimited." A rent a wreck type of place but the cars are in good shape, A/C, auto, etc... |

is it just because it's such a small island?
a limited number of things to do or something? |

If you can swing the extra few bucks, go further south ...
And visit French Polynesia; Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, et al.
While getting there can be a little pricey, accommodations are actually pretty cheap. Lots of little backbacker places and camp grounds right on the beach.
The people are friendly, the scenery is incredible, the diving is even more incredible, and the food (combination of French, Chinese, and Polynesian) is some of the best in the world.
edit. Just remembered that they run flights straight from Incheon to Papeete; not sure the cost though. |

Saipan does not "blow", at least if you're not staying more than a week. The package tourist trade has commercialized it a bit more than I want, but there's some great scenery, WWII sites and decent restaurants & beaches. Not my first choice, but sure as hell not my last either. |
