1. You get them as cheap as 100 000 won(110 dollars)
2. There are heaps of English language DVD's here, however Australia and Sth. korea are different regional codes so the DVD's there won't work here(however you can get around this by buying an all regional DVD chip from Yongsan)
3.TV is not as bad as you would think(however other posters may not think so but Dream team rules ). |

Walter Mitty had a post on here somewhere about a DVD Player that's for sale in Seoul. Someone said it was for sale at Carrefour in Bundang for maybe 130,000 won?
It was region-free, walter said, after you typed in some code or something. |

That would be this topic.
I got mine at the Carrefour in Ansan for 135,000, but they've since been marked up to 159,000. Wal-Mart (in Yongin) has them for 149,000. Great little unit. |

The link to "this topic" in Walter Mitty's post no longer exists. I'm looking for info on the DVD player mentioned in that thread. Where did it go? |

That topic got culled, though I've no idea why. It was pretty handy info. Oh well. Here it is again:
Philips DVP 320. Carrefour and Walmart both carry it here, but Walmart should be cheaper.
Here's how to hack it if you get one:
1.Switch it on - with no disc in it and the lid closed.
2.Open lid
3.Key in 9,9,9,9,0. 9999 is the defualt password, 0 is to set the DVD player to all-region.
4.After you should see a region free message.
5.Close tray
6.Switch off
7.Switch on again
Enjoy! |

Yes. See the "Guide to Yongsan" thread up top.
100,000w is the going rate for the no-name just-off-the-boat Chinese DVD player in Yongsan. Guys are selling stacks of them on the sidewalk. If you happen to be coming from the US, buy there instead. Only $45US there, at Walmart.

That's weird. Had to have been accidental, when we were moving posts from other threads to this one last month. Or it got lost when the board was shut down two weeks ago and the database got corrupted. Shouldn't have happened. |

Yes, the $45 Walmart one. Does anyone know the model and brand of this one? And does anyone actually have it? (Recommendations- yes or no?) |

I believe Kangnamdragon bought the display model of the Philips DVP-320 from Wal-mart, which is why he got it so cheaply. Last I saw, the same player was 159k at Carrefour and 128k at Wal-mart.
I know of at least 5 people who have this one (myself included) and it's a great little machine. The region-free hack works great and it plays VCDs very well too. (Perfect for downloaded movies. ) |

It looks like this.
My cheapie Wal-mart DVD player was easily made permanently region-free by entering a code in through the remote. The Walmart one I linked to above can also be hacked in the same method. |

Got the DVP-320 from Target in the US for $56 (or $59, I forget).
Yes, very happy with it, and thanks again to WM for the heads up on it. |

I payed 100,000 at Carrefour for an "Ethnic". The language on the case and remote is English. Nothing special otherwise except it takes 110 or 220 but I think they all do.
Later I saw two that were just a little bigger than portable cd players for about 150,000 and up. They look great for travelling. I'm going to get one of those before I leave. |

I've always been a little (more than a little, actually) that it costs twice (or more) the US price in Korea. Even so, I'm happy with it, and wouldn't trade it for anything else I've seen in the price range here. |
