Once I had to rather forcefully eject a kid from my class. But I'd never actually hit a kid. Play fighting is cool. I think Korean parents are way way less paranoid about the whole YOU TOUCHED MY KID thing.
Man the other day I was leaving work and some teacher had about 3 kids in the hall in the doggy style position and he was whacking their a^ss. Good god. |

I use an empty 1.5 litre coke bottle
If the students are a little too loud BANG on the table....beats the hell out of yelling and gets everyones attention.
If a student is not paying attention or working a light bonk on the head. Strangely enough I have had many students come up to me tell me they didnt bring a book, do homework etc and ask for the bonk Being of generous nature I bonk them and the take great delight in pulling out the 'missing' book or homework assignment and laughing at me. Go figure.
One very hot day (the air con wasnt working) I brough a squirtgun to class and what started out as a 'punishment ' quickly turned into a fun game for the whole class. If you got a question wrong you got squirted. I have never seen a class work so hard to come up with so many wrong answers before.
One girl was giving me the you wouldnt dare glare and what I would do is look away at another student and squirt her. 'oh my god it went off how did that happen oh there it goes again ' We all had a great day in class....the owner wasnt too impressed and I was told to leave the squirtgun at home |

Yep I am a child abuser too.
I play fight and mock fight and jest with the kids too. Through you do have to be careful
1, It does not get out of hand. Remember you are stronger and what may seem harmless could really hurt a student or scare them. Lifting that kids over your should may make one kid scream with glee while another scream in fear.
2. Attitudes can really affect what can be acceptted. I got along well with one student (middle schoo). Little rough housing and that but one day I went a little to far (for him). He complained and got transfered to another class. I got in a tiny bit of trouble. Students can be really touchy somedays - so do not push it. Be wary.
3. The Koreans (usually management) rarely understand roughhousing and playing. They usually think is why is an adult acting like a kid. They should grow up.
4. Koreans have this thing about hitting the head. You can beat the rest of the body blue but do not touch the head.
I have also have my child hitting that is not rough housing. I call them "thinking" taps. I tap on the head with my finger tips - a bit hard. Simple put thump thump pay attention or stop being stupid.
But remeber never in anger (annoyance a little) but full blown anger. Swear or storm out. Avoid htting the child.
