Hi, my Director has decided to change books for the elementary students. They are currently using 'GOGO" books. Any suggestions for newer booksthat are good for a first time teacher??

Lets go Series is great...

Personally I hate the "Let's Go" series. Totally boring and the teacher's guide is ridiculas to follow. I can't say I've ever had any success with the Let's Go series.

I've found Parade to be great. The kids like it and there's a million activites to do. Some require no planning while others require a bit more. The videos reinforce the learning they get in the book and the tapes are easy to follow.

I think Let's Go is a very good series, but even better if you can get the following:

-Let's Go flashcards (the big ones)
Many, many introduction and review activities and games you can do with these

-Let's Go readers
Helps to address the issue that there isn't much reading in Let's Go

-Oxford Picture Dictionary for Kids program
The whole program, not just the dictionary. Excellent for vocabulary, listening, and reading. Especially the reproducible word and picture cards and the take-home books (which all come on tape/CD). (Imagine using legal reproducibles in Korea! ) There are also worksheets and a workbook. It meshes very well with Let's Go, especially at the higher levels or when you have to teach Let's Go to kids that are really too old or advanced.

Let's Go is rather simplistic, but it recycles and reviews material in the way that kids need to master it. It introduces material in a developmentally appropriate order. I've never used the Teacher's Guide, so can't comment on it. But here you have this sound material, you should be able to throw together a few activities using the textbook page or the language found on it.

I think I saw Gogo on a shelf at the store once. I was scared. Very, very scared.

As far as I'm concerned there really is no series that compares to "Let's Go" by Oxford University Press.

There are books, workbooks, song books, storybooks, Supplementary worksheet books, comprehensive teaching guides, videos, Premade test booklets (I think this may have been produced independently), flash cards, tapes/cds, playing cards, and probably a few other things I've forgotten.

Most Hogwans don't invest in the whole range of supplementary products but if your director is willing to do so I think it's a great program. It is the most widly used series for a reason : It's good.
