I've been here a long time, yet I'm new to this type of visa. I am an F-2-1 visa holder...why do I need an E-2 attached to it to work for a school? Also if I quit this job will I suffer the same restrictions as an e-2 visa holder if I quit (ie. not be able to work for another company for the period of the
e-2) I feel some sense of freedom with the F-2-1 visa, but if I quit one job and try to get another I worry the immigration office won't issue another
E-2. The whole idea of holding two different types of visa boggles my mind. So if any of you can shed some light on this situation with your own personal experience then I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks... |

Basically the F-2-1 gives you the right to remain in Korea regardless of employment status for the duration of the visa - ie you can sit on your erse all day watching TV and drinking beer (spouse permitting, of course! )
It doesn't give you any permission to work however, which is where you need the additional work visa. You should have no problems getting new E2s issued whenever you need them, as it's usually a simple process to get one cancelled and another one started. Indeed it's possible to have several on the go at one time with no real problems.
The main thing is you notify immigration of any changes in your place of work and get everything updated.
There might be some more information about F-2-1 visas in the FAQ section. |

Because someone from a non-English country can marry a Korean, but can't legally teach English in Korea.
I believe there are no major restrictions on changing jobs. Just have a good reason for doing so, or give the proper legal notice etc. |

If you have an F2 visa, this means that your spouse is now your sponsor, not your employer... and even though you still need an E2 to work legally, you can quit at any time and don't need the dreaded Letter of Release to get another job and you don't have to go on an international visa run to get your E2. |

But the E2 is only for "language institutes" right?
If I wanted to wrok at the local Quick-E mart... I don't tink i'd need one if I had an F2.
So my question is this;
Why would I work in a language school? Why not just work in a "normal (general) Hogwon and avoid the hassle? |

The visa needed to work at 7-11 or familymart is the E-7 visa, which is also the one needed to work (although not as a teacher) at Samsung, LG or KT. |

How did it go? Smoothly I hope.
Have you changed your visa? If so, what papers did you take with you to do so? |
