Anyone know where the Kyobo Building is ? It supposedly houses the Kyobo bookstore and the Chinese Consul's office. |
Which Kyobo Builidng? Do you mean the one downtown Seoul? That is across the street from the Sejeong Cultural Center on Jong Street. The Chinese embassy is not there though. I was not aware that there is a Chinese Consul in addition to the embassy. |

Oooooooookay, good point
I'm looking for the Chinese Embassy/Consul to go get a Visa and the web appeared to show it in the "Kyobo Building near Kwanghwamun" |

For the Chinese embassy, go to Myeongdong. |

I thought the Chinese Embassy was on the 9th or 10th floor of the Kyobo Building. It was there when I applied for a visa back in November 2002... |

That's the impression I got from searching the net. That it's in the Kyobo Building a block or two from Kwanghwamun station, near the US Embassy (after doing more searches for the building). It (the Chinese Embassy) was supposed to move to new buildings, but I didn't know when or if it's happened, or where.
So I guess it's hit or miss, since I called them today and couldn't find anyone that spoke English ... so maybe I'll just stop by the Kyobo Building near Kwanghwamun and see |

I'm pretty sure the Chinese embassy in myeongdong was under construction when I left Korea 4 months ago and not due to be opened until next year... so pretty good bet it's in the Kyobo building at Gwanghwamun. |

Thanks ...
I'm sticking with Kyobo outside the station, it's easy access for me and I'll see if it's there. I'm not in a hurry so it's okay
I'll let everyone know in case there is interest |

The Chinese embassy was in Myeongdong when I first cam to Korea. Maybe it is under reconstruction? I remember because I jumped in and out of the parking lot and said I went to China. |

I think kangnamdragon is confused tonight. He has been here a long time and is probably thinking of an old location. Just go the the Kyobo Building near Kwanghamun. |

Not sure if it's under reconstruction or if it's a totally new construction... Snuffy - go to Kwanghwamun and report back tomorrow, 'kay? |

UPDATE
The Chinese Embassy and Office of the Consul for the People's Republic of China IS INDEED in the Kyobo Building. I asked them while there today and they stated that the move to the location in Myeondong will not take place for more than at least one more year, and then they were hesitant to know a date.
To get there you want to go to the Kwanghwamun Subway Station (Line 5)
From there leave via Exit Number 3 (Three)
That exit goes straight up about 4 flights of stairs, at the third set of stairs the landing leads into the Kyobo Bookstore
Go up the final set of stairs and to the Left is the Kyobo Building (Kyobo Life Insurance Building)
The Chinese Embassy is on the 9th Floor and the Visa Section is clearly defined with very large yellow signs in English
I went at 9:00 AM and there were maybe 260 people, it was ugly
Hope that helps (assuming anyone cared) |
