I've only seen 2 HUGE cockroaches in my life. The first was in a Gwangju yeogwon during the World Cup. The damn thing didn't run away like the normal sized ones do. It started coming at me. I was leaving the room. When I came home later I had forgotten about it and didn't see it again.

The second one was in Morocco later that same year. it paid no attention to anyone and just slowly crawled about the lobby of my hotel.

Isn't this a subtle hint you need to review your personal hygiene practices? But no, they don't bite. Although they have been known to bury their eggs inside open sores and then it heals...Then they hatch and burrow their way out of your skin...True!
I've had infestations before back home. It doesn't mean you are dirty necessarily. in my case it simply meant that I lived above a bakery. The landlord sent in fumigators periodically but they found their way back in within a week. My roommate and I had a scoresheet for confirmed kills.

They burrow their way out? Aren't they aerobic creatures? They need to breathe, no?

I live on the 7th floor. Most mosquitoes stay closer to the ground.

I like observing insects in Korea. Some of them are quite colourful. I found a beautiful scarlet and green beetle once. I also saw a huge yellow and orange spider. Too bad I can't find their names. My favs are the praying mantis (pluralize that one for me) that sometimes make it through the fifth floor window of my office (I'd never seen those before) and the Korean ladybugs that cover the walls of the building in late fall.

a HAVANA PARTY for fruit flies...

That's what I have, a congo line of dancing flies out of every bag of fruit I bring home if I leave it on the counter or table for even one measly day.

Maybe it's because the fruit here decomposes faster than I've ever seen!

It does, doesn't it? And I have such a hell of a time trying to buy small quantities of it.

If the mosquitoes go for you and not your girlfriend, it could be your metabolism or check out what you are eating. Some people have a scent that mosquitoes love. But, bananas can cause a secretion that mosquitoes love.

I always have trouble with mosquitoes so I avoid bananas in the summer. I was out walking with my friend who is never bothered by mosquitoes but she ate a banana before we left and they sswarmed on her and left me alone. We had to cut the walk short it was so bad.
