Every recruiter in town seems to be trying to fill these public school positions. I had an interview yesteday, and was offered the job on the spot. This was for an elementary school. The pay is 2.3 mil plus housing.
They were rather upset that I said I needed time to think about it. Of course the recruiter is pressuring me too. I have been told that the deadline for filling these jobs is July 15 (tomorrow). I said fine. I'll let you know on Monday, or offer the job to someone else. Don't be pressured by these guys to sign.

This school would be ok, but there were things that made me uncomfortable. One of the teachers involved in the interview asked what I consider very inappropriate questions about my religion and family. He made it very clear that if I took the job he would take me to his church, etc. (I am not interested). Frankly, the guy gave me the creeps. He might be ok, but I did not get a good feeling from him.

Also, the English teacher who I would supposedly do team teaching with is going off to have a baby in October. There was no straight answer on who would be replacing her. My thought is that I would be stuck teaching classes of 40 elementary students by myself.

Just be careful with these public school jobs. I think they want alot for what they are offering. Although, 22 contact hours a week you must be at the school monday to friday 9-5, and you get 2 weeks vacation.....1 summer, 1 winter.

Sounds like a turkey. First, there's no bloody way that personal "morality" questions should be asked for a public school position! Second, if you haven't had the training/experience for teaching L2 youngsters, you could be walking into a nightmare if teaching w/o a Korean co-teacher.

I'd give this one a miss....

Hey bud, if you are only getting 2 WEEKS vacation, something is majorly skewed....

Besides public holidays, Korean public schools have about 8-12 weeks off for vacation. Sometimes you are asked to teach extra classes during the break, but normally you would get paid more than that. A week on each end seems AWFULLY stingy.
