I am interested in VCDs. I saw a lot in Yongsan last weekend and am interested in them more so due to the price (4 for 10,000) as opposed DVDs for 10,000 a pop. Is there a huge difference? Do Korean movie DVDs have English subtitles? --Tembo |

VCDs usually require 2 for 1 movie, and sometimes 3. They are terrible, terrible quality a lot of times, and the worst are just bootlegs.
DVDs, while much more expensive are worth it, IMO. and yes, all modern korean DVDs have english subtitles. |

plus it's possible to buy a vcd that just won't play....like it was said: just not worth buying.
and note that some dvd's sold in korea can only be played on machines from the same "area code." and vice versa for dvd purchased back in the homelands. it all depends what you're looking for. |

I've bought some vcds that were okay, but like Dan and LS are saying- you get what you pay for. VCD quality is substantially less than DVD, but if you don't have a DVD player, VCD can run on just about any pc as well as most set-top DVD players. A better option if you have high-speed internet are DIVx rips off of Kazaalite, entirely free, you just need to download DIVx player software (free, and it works better than the DIVx codecs for Windows Media Player). |

Yes, that's a great option.
Like Dan said, VCD's are cheaper because the quality is almost never as good as a DVD. Not to mention the fact that VCD's don't come with the "extras" that many DVD's do. |
