|
|
I'm curious if anyone around lives, works plays, etc in Ansan and what they think of it. I'll be moving there in about two weeks. I used to live done in Daegu, and haven't had a chance to visit since I'm out of Korea at the moment.
Any decent art supply stores?
Good book stores?
How's transportation?
Any decent night life?
All appreciate any repsonses. I'm hoping the new digs will be lots of fun. |

i lived in ansan for 2 years, and always enjoyed it. it is a quiet place and not so very far from seoul.... i now live in busan however but i can put you in touch with some good ansan folks
art supplies? - well there is no-where specific but the big stores like EMart, Carrefour and Homeplus have a lot of art materials... for more go to seoul
book stores - in english - no - gotta go to seoul for that
transport is good. trains and buses are no problem. get a bike - there are paths everywhere, nice big parks, and the terrain is mostly flat.
night life - yes. plenty around handae-ap and jungang.
where exactly will yu be?

Thanks Matt. I, too, will be in Ansan very shortly. You saved me some search time. SaraDevil, I have a nagging suspicion we will soon be co-workers. |

Ansan is the industrial arse-end of Kyonggido. Sorry Hoje. Don't mean to gainsay, but ...

As far as I'm concerned Ansan is a good place to live a sucky place to play, that said cab fare from Seoul to Ansan is like 40,000W so if you can get a couple of others out its pretty easy to party in seoul. if you wanna meet up when you get down here PM me I'm living near Wolpi-Dong and would love to meet some fellow Ansanners. |

o - skinny is quite right - ansan is an industrial area. part of the reason i left there is that the pollution was making me sick. it can be a problem - depends which area you live in.
however i always found there was plenty to do there and i developed some good friendships there. i only went to seoul for music and korean lessons. i did all my "playing" (though i never called it that!) between jungang and handaeap.
i live in busan now, but when i visit the seoul area, i always stay in ansan. |

Ansan wasn't that great.
It was cheaper than Seoul and I saved money during my year there.
Suwon is a quick getaway.
Ansan has theaters, pc rooms, dvd & playstation bangs, all off your entertainment needs near the subway stops.
It's spread out so you may have to use taxis to get to say Home Plus.
Good Luck!

that's where the bike comes in handy.
when i left ansan i locked my bike up at gojan station and just left it there. months later i went back and it was still there. i gave it away to a pakistani friend.
another good thing about ansan - it is multicultural. i can speak urdu so i made a lot of friends among the pakistani community there. good food to be had!

Good for you.
I had left a sweet bike locked up at JungAng station one afternoon. After watching a movie I came back to find that it had been stolen.
If you buy a bike in Korea, buy a cheapy.

it was a cheapy. i plan to get a damn good bike soon though. i see a lot of people in busan riding very nice looking imported bikes - TREK, Mongoose, - mostly mountain bikes.
in gyeongju i was staggered to find, just near the bus station, a bike shop that specialised in recumbent bikes! damn - i've always wanted one of them!

Thanks so much for the good information.
And hoju, I'd be happy to hook up with interesting new friends, as I"ll probably be there for a while.
Thanks again. |
