Currently the academy has Side by Side and Interchange. I was wondering what books others use as some of the topics are a bit hard, or maybe it's the way they are presented. Also there there is a lot of staight conversation A.... B.... etc. Maybe I just need to get a bit more creative? Keeping in mind that I'm a new teacher and I need books that have 'guidelines' at the start of them, does anyone have any suggestions for other books?
cheers.

American hotline has worked well with my middle school students. The grammar is quite easy but the vocab and conversation points need a slightly higher level. Hope it helps..........Ella Laughing

Side-by-side is a steaming pile of smelly poop.

Try the "Get Real" series. I see them for sale in COEX.

I have enjoyed it, and the students seem to follow along quite well. Plenty of material. Be sure you buy the teacher guide and teacher CD. The student CD in the books don't have all of the material -- have to get the teacher's CD too. Some nice supplimental stuff in the teacher guide too.

I have used the American Headway books, and have found them to be pretty good. I also have used a series caled "Can You Believe it" this has gotten a gret response. It is a small true story that they pack full of idioms. It is interesting for both the students and teachers.

I'm giving Easy True Stories a trial run with my after-school class, and it seems to be going pretty well thus far. It's not very big on conversation, though...topic discussion is very possible. Fairly easy vocabulary and grammar.

It's made by the same press company that made Side by Side.

I have just started using the Can you believe it series a month ago. Unfortunatly I do not have any good games that directly relate to the book. I do have a good "family feud" style game that I plug some of the idioms into. For the most prt I haven't had to work hard to get them talking about the stories and the idioms. Some of these classes have lead to us ll laughing pretty hard. I have used both the first and second books and have had good clss feed back from both.

Yea, stay as far away from the Network series as you possibly can.
