I just got my PS2 chipped from that old dude in Yongsan (the Doc Ock wannabe with the electric screw drivers hanging from the celing around him). My buddy game me all of his 80+ burned games to play and most of the time i just wanna throw the fucking thing in the Han River.

I'd say 1 time out of 30 attempts the machine actually reads the CD's and when it happens its completely arbitrary - no rhyme or reason. I've tried opening the tray, truning the power on and off, tapping the power button, holding down the power button, hitting restart with a number 2 pencil, closing my eyes while pushing the power button. Damn, i even tried blowing into the machine (Old Nintendo style)...WTF? What's the trick here?

Sounds like the mod chip hasn't been soldered on properly.

Usually with these no-swap mods, it'll work first go, every go.

Just turn on the unit, then put in your game, and away you go. Try taking it back to the shop and trying it out with their games. Take some of your friends' games in too, because they may be the culprit.

I agree- mine works 100% of the time- I hold down the "start" button (on the controller) as the machine boots- and dont release it till it says "Playstation 2" on the TV.

So when you turn it on the power light is red- I reset it (which turns the light green) while holding down the start button- this works (for me) every time.

Try this and if it does not work- take it back- its no big deal.
