I am passing on this private email to all of you who may be having a hard time getting your diploma for visa...a loophole many may not know about.

Teaching Foreign
Languages
(E-2)
- Certificate of academic degree or diploma of graduation
- Employment contract
- Documents regarding establishment of school or organization
- Letter of personal reference notarized (form 129)

This is the key...my friend. What I found on the Korean consulate website. This "certificate of academic degree" can be anything...from your college, the registrar..etc. As long as it is in a diploma font (calligraphy), form, and language...you will be fine. Make a certificate, find someone you know in your department (dean is the best...it is who I used) have them sign it, get it stamped by someone at the registrar (official seal of the university)--(it helps if you have made friends in the registrar).

Look at a diploma from your school. Make changes so you make a "certificate" not a diploma--use similar form, words, font.

I sent you an email prior with the exact words I used, but I was kicked off internet...it got erased.

Here it is again

The College of YOUR DEPARTMENT of
The YOUR STATE University

from

YOUR UNIVERISITY

certifies that

YOUR NAME

has completed the degree of

Bahelor of Arts/Science
YOUR MAJOR

and should be awarded the benefits thereof
Beginning the --- day of MONTH, two thousand four

Good luck. I guess the Korean immigration are sticklers for official (or official-looking documents) A small hoop to jump through that will save you time and money!

mslaoshi Laughing I am so happy to be leaving for my new job!!!

let me know if this works for you!!!

I think they mean the actual "Diploma" as in the piece of paper your degree is written on.

A consulate website said this, but did it pass inspection at Korean Immigration?

This process does not replace the necessity of having a degree. This is for those people who have, perhaps, not recieved their degree due to a recent convocation but who still want to get a visa. So, you get a letter from your registrar and get it certified by the embassy just as you would your degree.

Once you get your degree, you are still responsible for presenting the original to recieve your E2 visa. I know because I have done exactly this.

Idea Mslaoshi, why don't you start a thread next time with a link for the newbies who want to buy a degree in Thailand? Evil or Very Mad

Wow. Okay, I guess I won't read responses to an ad first thing in the morning again. Jaz...I intended the post to be for teachers like me, with a bachelors degree, but no diploma due to graduation within the last month or so. But I guess you can use information in all sorts of ways. But why focus on the constructive? Rolling Eyes Your scathing answer seems logical. You also may believe that heavy metal records when listened to backwards promote satanic messages and therefore homicidal/suicidal tendencies. Or you could use a pickling recipe to preserve your foot or dog...um yeah, okay. You get the picture. Wink Sorry Jaz, I couldn't resist.

I hope this helps people out there with the unecessary red-tape, waste of time and energy ...and STRESS that I have been under the last month and a half. If you wish to use it for "evil" as jaz has expressed...then so be it. I am not the ESL police. Nor do I want to be. Cool

I'll se ya'll in Korea.

Cool cool with my visa and paid for air ticket Laughing

Chronic pride..and friends. Yes, the document did work for Korean immigration. I got my visa a day after my diploma arrived. I got my supposed "rush delivery" diploma two days ago so, it won't be a problem in the future. But for now, I am happy I jumped through the hoops, took a chance, did a little research, and will be getting to my job in time.

I forgot...as jaz said to say that I did present an official letter from my university. The letter did not work. This is the reason for the certificate. They rejected the letter, and I wasted two weeks waiting to find out.

I'm confused...you got your visa a day after your diploma arrived. Was this your original diploma or the 'certificate'? You also got your diploma two days ago, was this your original?

I received my official diploma too late...as I thought. If I would have waited, I would have had to find another job here, another place, and look for another job over seas.

Even in a "rush delivery," I got it a day or two before I got my visa (getting the diploma had no connection to the visa process other than delaying it). BUT I used the certificate to get the visa...my point was that the diploma finally came...but too late. I was glad for the certificate.
