Apparently the other way involves removing one of the video codecs but then you can't do as many things with your videos |
why bother with codecs?
a while ago somebody suggested that i use videolan to watch my movies..
videolan
best suggestion in ages.. i forget who it was but.. thanks!
i have never had a problem running a file on it.. i say never.. if i had the rare hassle of a file not playing, i would simply download another copy.. i assume the file was bung.
i have about 300 full movies, 50 imax movies and the entire series of the simpsons and friends on this pc..
i wouldn't waste my time with codecs ever again.
good luck |

Not me- I'm having my own sort of wacky video problem- finding them. |

Actually, I think it was me.
And I didn't stop posting. I just stopped posting anything that was actually meaningful. |

Videolan is very good, and more importantly, it's open source and will continue to get better while remaining free of ads and spyware.
On saying that, anyone with codec problems, just go to Google, type in "Nimo codecs pack" and download and install.
In two years, I have only once had a file that wouldn't play, searched again, downloaded a new pack, installed them, and again no problems. That was 8 months ago.
Every video file plays, including all my movies, tv episodes: simpsons, 24, West wing etc which are all coded with different codecs. Nimo simply chooses the best codec for each job, quietly and quickly. |
