Is it possible? I just tried to play a CD-R movie and it was a no-go. Got that irritating "Sorry, can't read it" message.

I believe I read somewhere that the DVD drive on the XBox is DVD only.. unlike the PC DVD drives that we're used to, that will read both.

A common solution for many XBox modders is to swap out the factory drive out for one of the compatible PC DVD drives.

It's ugly, but it results in a) a faster drive and b) more media that you can read.

Worth a shot, try Googling for it.

no, the standard X-Box drive will not read a cd-r as such.
I presume you have a modded x-box. did you do it yourself or have it done in Yongsan? If it was done for you then the dude should have put some utility programs on it , hopefully including "DVD2XBOX"

this program can read PC formatted Cd-roms and Dvd's and you can transfer the file that way to your hard drive, but you still can't watch the movie.

the only other option is when you are burning the movie onto CD-R is to burn it in VCD or SVCD format. then it will play in ANY home DVD player, including the X-Box or PS2. VCD's you buy in the stores here should work no problem, they do on mine anyway.

If you don't have DVD2XBOX, you can get it quite easily from the net, try xboxscene.com for example. In fact XBox Scene webpage has a lot of knowledgeable people there who don't mind newbie questions, so I would recommend going there for a faster answer to any xbox queries than you will find here.

Thanks for the muy rapido answeros, amigos.

Basically it sounds like a no-go, unless I swap the drive? My problem with burning the file as a VCD is that I'm using the program "Windows Movie Maker" which a) sucks and b) saves movie files as .wmv or .avi. Is it possible to convert a .wmv file to VCD before burning?
