My Samsung Yepp-55 MP3 player bit the dust today.
I used and abused it well beyond the design specifications, but it is only 11 months old. Does any warranty still apply, and is it worth taking it to a Samsung store to try to get it repaired?
Thanks for any helpful advice. |

Korea after-sales service (or A/S if you prefer Konglish) is fantastic. Give it a shot. |

Hmmm... same player I have... I wish I'd gotten one with a memory stick... but with a little creative formatting I could fit 70 songs on the 256MB...
What'd you do to it? |

Well, with such an admission of abuse, no wonder perhaps that it died.
Just don't tell them...
Yeah...it's not the kind of thing that is too serviceable by the user....you will have to take it in... |

Definitely bring it in....Samsung a/s serviced my laptop long after the warranty expired, and only charged me a pittance for their trouble.
they would even clean it and replace those little grip pads on the bottom, a nice touch i always thought. |

My MP3 player goes where I go.
I tend to be a restless spirt and take the road less traveled, if not off the road altogether.
When I lived in Sokcho, I would ride my bike up into the mountains and go trekking. Almost got arrested by a park warden in Seroksan for not sticking to the proper path.
So my MP3 player has seen a lot of abuse. Too much apparently.
note: I got the 128MB, tis all I really need. But in retrospect, I probably should have gone with the 258MB, there was not that much price difference. |

My Saehan MP-Man F-35 (128MB) is running on 6 years now and still going strong (wife uses it now while I use an MPIO FL100 512MB).
A couple of summers back I made the mistake of leaving it next to a hotel-room air conditioner all night; In the morning I discovered that it had become a condensation magnet overnight and was covered in moisture which resulted in the onboard flash becoming unusably corrupted with 'bad memory block' errors. I dried it off and thought it was garbage when I discovered it wouldn't load any more songs on the onboard memory (i.e. my 128 MB player suddenly became a 64MB one) but I manged to repair it (except for 1MB of memory) by downloading an update to the firmware which had a memory repair utility...
...to make a long story short, go to the website and see if there is anything helpful on the support pages, then get in touch with after-service, etc.
Depending on what's actually wrong with it you may get more life out of it. |

It's Alive
Not getting anywhere with Samsung customer service and time running out with my vacation coming up, I decided, what the heck and tried to fix it myself.
Nothing really complex, didn't attempt major sugery on it. Just opened it up and blow out the insides with one of those cans of compressed air and wiped down the contacts with rubbing alcohol and then put it all back to together.
Not sure exactly what I did, but when I turned it on, it powered right up and seems to be working fine. |
