ajumma: short, balding, overly curly hair, too-bright lipstick, preeminent scowl on their faces.

ajoshi: smelly, loud, egomaniacal, preeminent smile on their faces.

These descriptions sound more like Miami Snowbirds hangin' out at Hialeah racetrack circa 1970's.

an informed observation from a related thread:

...As for the whole permed hair and polyster thing, that is a generation thing: you rarely see a 30 year old married woman switching to polyester. Except perhaps when around the house with a young one who might spit up or poop on her at any moment.

There are many sweet tempered, polyester free, stylishly coiffed older women in Korea it's just the closer you get to the "can remember the Korean war" generation the less likely it is to find them.

Cedar gets it.

Ajuma: most of my K-coworkers, lots of perms, and too much makeup, but no polyester and very kind in their way too.

Adjoshi: the half naked one who is always watering the plants on the rooftop next door.
