Seriously,
I've noticed subconciuosly that I must get to places quicker for little to no reason.
I walk faster for no reason other than I must walk fast????
What is wrong with me??? |

You're getting overheated and in denial about it. |

Every time I hear someone say I feel like slapping them.
I think the attitude is a cancer on korean society. Save money, work faster, it's no wonder the overall quality of korean products, hagwons, buildings etc. is not higher... they are all slapped together on the cheap. has to die! |

There are some postive aspects. I remember going out for dinner with my folks back home and waited what seemed like a lifetime to be seated and served. ditto in department stores. I was stocking up on bras etc. and walked out of one place because I wasn't getting service. |

whatever, i wish the slow mo-fos waddling down the street would get a little balli balli syndrome. nothing pisses me off more than being stuck behind four interlocked-people, moving so slowly they are almost going backwards. |

Hear hear!
On a related note, I've finally figured out that (most) Koreans are "bballi bbali" when they want you to do something, but when you want them to do something, the syndrome magically vanishes. |

And, conversely, what about when you're coming toward them, they can all see you, and not one of them moves?
Infuriating.

And this doesn't annoy me....the fact that foreigners fall into the Korean lunacy of romanization, thinking the 2 "b"s are phonetically different than 1. English doesn't deal in "sang" forms, guys.
Bbali NOT Bali
Right....I had a Korean teacher tell me once that they were very different. This person even offered up the pronunciation of both, with one "b" being softer than 2.
I was numb. |

this is a great point. it triggers agrophobia and great agitation for me. if people waddle i feel like shoving everyone around to give me walking room. |

Hey, I like the bali bali syndrome. I like the coffee machines everywhere, the ginseng drinks and various other tonics at convenience stores (the same thing cheaper at the yakgoog). Siddle up the coffee machine or pharmacy counter, shoot one back and rush out the door clinking the bottle into the wastebasket. No time, must join the rush. And outside cars veering around, straddling lanes, rushing into position and on the straight driving insanely fast because they have brakes and what else are they for. Or because they have, or think they have, a big engine. Everybody knows what they want and goes for it without a pause, no reflection, just want and get, decided and go. With the densely populated neighbourhoods this makes for a pleasant bustle. Acting brazen and blunt, like New Yorkers. Myopic and in a hurry. Go go go.
Which might explain why some Koreans do nothing but sleep on the weekend, or at least Sunday. Ever notice how empty the streets are on Sunday.
It's been awhile since I've been back to Canada to be able to compare, but if slapping things together in a hurry and not planning are faults then they'll figure that out eventually, right?
All this activity is a buzz.
Yes, I have bali bali syndrome and...loving it. There's time to sleep when you're dead. |

i've never thought of korea as a "on the go" type of place. just because you stay at work for 16 hours talking to your friends on your cell phone, doesn't actually qualify as work in my books. i would rather work smarter, not longer. |
