Ok folks, its two years today since I came to Korea, and my second contract ends tomorrow, wonderful day you would think will double pay coming in but ehhh.....no, my wonderful boss when I asked him tonight about my severance pay again, told me " its not important". Maybe not to him!!! So heres the deal, I signed another contract at that school for two more mths, but now he's saying he can't pay severance 'cos he's too "poor" how long does he have to pay it and if he still refuses what can I do, I'm so very close to getting my regular salary Monday and leaving.....any advice?? |

Ummmm...if he is too poor to pay what he owes you now, there is a definite possibility that he won't have the money in two months.
If I were in your situation, I think I'd ask for a serious one-on-one with the boss on Friday. Politely let him know that your severence is very important to you. And if it isn't in your bank account by the end of the day, you will be at the Labor Department first thing Monday morning. |

I've read many posts here refering to the Labor Tribunal as the place to go in this case. Personally, I don't even know anybody who knows anybody who has been to this place. Reasons being that (allegedly )they only handle really major grievances, and that hagwon bosses bribe them to put grievances against their schools to the bottom of the pile. If I was being "beep"ed out of my severance pay however, I would track the place down and find out for sure. |

Hagwon bosses can bribe one or two labor officials, but not enough to provide themselves security if you go and file a complaint to somebody they don't know. I have personally gotten severance from an unwilling boss after merely threatening to go to the Ministry of Labor.
Think about it. Severance is around 2 million won. That's enough to bribe maybe 4 labor officials. |

Hey...no one can use you unless you let them!! And you are letting him! The sad thing is that as long as you are working for him...you can't file a complaint or law suit to get your money!
But...once you do leave...immigration will issue you an extension if you have a pending law suit. A G-1 Visa.
G-1(Other)
::: A. The Object of Visa Issuance :::
This visa is available to foreigners who are not eligible for A-1 status through F-3 and H-1 status, but who desire to stay in Korea over 91 days.
An individual who is receiving medical treatment
An individual who has filed a legal suit.
Fight the bad man who wants to cheat you! And don't feel bad about doing it! He does not feel bad about doing it to you!!! |

Where can I get detailed information about this place? For starters where is it? Are the people there Englishee challenged? How much red tape is involved? Will they assist with relatively minor grievances? ....yadayadayada..... |
