I need to find vanilla extract. I know I can get it in Songtan, but I don't have a way to get to Songtan, so that's out. I need a place in Seoul I can easily find, since I am none too bright.
If someone can tell me where to get it, I'll gladly give up half a block of the chocolate fudge (my grandmother's recipe) that it helps create.

They DO have it at Carrefour and at Wal-Mart ... I've bought it there; but of course could vary by location
Also, my local little supermarket - if you can call those things that has this vanilla power stuff that has the smell of and "close" to the taste of it. I tried cooking with it but it didn't go well so I tried disolving it in some plain 'ole white rum, not much mind you and it helped immensley.
Your best bet if you can't find it as noted would be the Hyundae department stores, in the "specialty" food areas of the food floors ... I saw genuine stuff there but it was very pricey (as in $20/ounce). I've sporadically seen vanilla beans as well ... |

| Both Hannam Market and Haddon house both carried it the last time I was there. To get to Hannam market, take subway line 6 to Hangangjin (just one stop past Itaewon). I forget the exit number, but when you surface, look for the Volvo building. It's in the basement there. They have all sorts of baking supplies, as I recall, including coconut and other rarities. |

| The little black market place in Itaewan has it. I just saw some there this past weekend. Take the subway to Itaewan stn. Whatever exit you come up you'll be at an intersection where you'll see a Burger King and a place called Gecho's on adjacent corners with a street in between them. Walk down that street about 5 mins. Keep looking at the stores on the left side of the street. I don't think there's a sign or anything outside but if you keep your eyes open you should be able to spot all the western food on the shelves, it's just a little tiny place. |

sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I'm looking for vanilla too.
Anyone know if there's a foreign market in Gwangju where i can find some? Or better yet, does Home Plus or E-Mart carry it? |

Go to grocerymall.net
It's an on-line grocery store from Jinju. They have lots of stuff and will search for things they don't have on hand. Then they mail it directly to you. It all takes about 3 days.
It's a great resource for hard-to-find stuff. |

| Question about the vanilla powder- do you use it in the same amount as you would the liquid extract? |
