After being back in Canada for about a month I was just checking the board out and thought I would reply to your comments.

My main goal in going to Korea was to save $$, as I stated I lived in a small town to accomplish these goals.

I arrived in Korea with 1000 US in T/C's. I had sufficient funds in Canada so that I did not have to send any money home throughout the year for any reason. Four months into my contract I still had 700 US in T/C. Due to working a little overtime my take home was never lower than 2.2.

I walked to work ate a huge meal everyday on the school which meant I only had one other meal a day to prepare which I usually cooked at home western style. Along with eating some fruit everyday thats it for food costs (usually around 230000/mth).

My monthly bills were a joke, never exceeding 60 000 in total including TV, phone, water, gas etc.

I had a bike at my apartment for free, I used it a great deal, I did not buy bottled water for the most part because my director told me to help myself to the bottled water jugs at the school.

When out with any Korean person including women I found it almost impossible to pay for anything, the hospitatlity and generosity of these people is unreal. My director was also a good friend and we did alot of things together he would not allow me to pay at all when we did anything including drinks, dinner, travelling in Korea etc.

Drinking, usually about once a week to the point of being Drunk, cheap to do when you buy Korean Beer and some Soju at home prior to going out to the bar stone sober.

On average I spent [b]less[/b] than 500,000 per month.

Every month my bank account grew by well over 2 mill /month. After 6 months I wanted a break and went to Thailand on the 700 US I still had and some Won. I came back and still had 300 US. I didn't touch that until I wanted to go to Japan for a brief time and visit my friend in Fukuoka. Came back to Korea with no more US $$$ and lived for the last two months on my Won sitting in the bank.

If you think I am full of BS thats fine because I don't care. The poster wanted to know what people saved and I shared my experience with them PERIOD

I am not sure why some people would take the time and effort to examine what people say and then say hey thats BS...... (MAYBE THEY JUST HAVE TOOOOO MUCH TIME to do nothing)

It is completely reasonable to save alot of money in Korea if they have the will power and knowledge to do so. As a matter of fact I am thnking of coming back soon simply to save more $$$. After living there for a year I know that I can save the same amount or more this time around with no difficulties.

You said you made $31 K CDN & saved $25 K CDN despite living the life of Reilly. So you lived this lifestyle on $ 6 K/yr. BEFORE deductions?!

You sound(by your own admission)like a deadbeat. Why didn't you treat your Korean "friends" once in a while?
