There is but I think it is minimal, not sure what the difference is.
Looks the same to me. |

Why don't you drink?
Shouldn't that read:
Why don't you stop drinking in Korea? |

1, The poor quality of the alcholic drinks here.
2, In a pen pushing office job (as I had back home) one can arrive at work hungover without it affecting your preformance at work. With teaching kids arriving at work hungover means you're going to do a bad job so it isn't fair on them and it's best to knock it on the head. |

I don't think so. However, I can't even sniff Makoli without getting an instant hangover, yet I love tongdong-ju, especially around Seol-lal. Is that screwy
I used to drink moderately every weekend and some weeknights before I went to live in Korea, but after two years there I was the most piss-fit of my career, so to speak. The Korean drinking culture has always been one of the attractions for me. |

| What good does drinking serve? Other than the short term feeling of "clarity"...it does nothing. It damages your body and badly damages your wallet. No thanks. I prefer having my outdoor hobbies than imbibing in the halls of Prince Soju. |
But you're forgetting about the enjoyment of it all. Otherwise, why would you do it?
Like some Pretenders song: "No reason, just seems so pleasin'..."
And if it's not for you, it's because drugs affect different people in different ways. |

Is there anyone out there who is sober in Korea? I have been having trouble mixing with my fellow teachers/Koreans because I don't drink. They think it is the weirdest thing...some feel uncomfortable because I am not drinking alcohol. then I feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.
I have been to parties before where I felt comfortable because people were drinking socially/smoking pot socially but you could tell it was not the main reason for the get-together. It is different than just getting together to get "f--ed up" with that being the main goal. The difference is between substantial conversations with alert individuals and drunks who wish to be unconscious after work.
It feels like such a waste to me. Plus, it is boring for me.
If there is a group out there that does fun things without needing to get smashed...let me know. In the meantime...I will be wandering around Seoul solo.

I'm sure I'll get a lot of negative responses from this post...sorry if this sounds judgemental but it is just my preference speaking and frustration. |

Just stay away from the dong dong ju!!!!
The worlds worst hangover |
Hey ... i love Dong-dong Ju !!! Doesn't any alcohol contribute to a hangover ??? I really only drink once or twice a month. Moderation is as i see it the real key here.
SOJU !!! Now that stuff is wicked. Why not just chase rubbing alcohol ?!? Purely EVIL chemical toxicity.
Years ago i guess it used to be made with go-goo-ma ( sweet potatoes ) but these days you can't find a trace of it. Too bad really
Poison i say, truly the devil's mouthwash |

| I know people who get hangovers after 4 drinks |
That'd be me. In my earlier days I would pack it away. But now... Well. Four and I'm feeling sick the next day. So I try to limit it. Although sometimes I am not sucessful. |

"If you wish to know a man's true character, observe him when he is drunk" - Sun Tzu (I quote from memory)
I think this is so true. I have no problems with people not drinking because of not liking the taste or because it makes them sick. But I'm always a tad sus of people who don't drink because they don't like the kind of person they turn into. Wouldn't want to be next to that kind of person in a crisis, where again that true character would come out. |

I disagree. The person you are is the person you've developed yourself into. |

"the truth comes out when you're drunk" - I 've heard this a thousand times...I suppose its correct to an extent. But its a warped, exxagerated version of the truth. |

No man is an island. Exterior social forces play a big part in shaping how you behave. Alcohol eases those social inhibitions and brings the more instictive behaviourisms to the surface. I know guys who are generally nice but get violent when they're drunk, gentlemanly guys who become crass, conservative women who get flirtatious, and in stressful situations I've seen all of those latent insticts come out in them when they're sober. |

Alcohol does things to people. Other drugs do other things to people. The same person acts different ways under the influence of different drugs. The variety of effects on personality shows that, rather than stripping away personality parts to reveal the 'true' personality, these effects do nothing more than change the personality. |
