My OB/GYN doctor! Great guy! Acutally "bucked the system" in my small hometown. (Group of 4 who thought that they were god's gift to pregnant women!) Looking back, it must have been tough for him.

uhh...that i know of, it was a girl in my first grade class. i still know her now cuz we went to the same middle, high, and uni.

damn...some ppl just met a korean for the first time only a few years ago??!! Shocked

The first koreans I met were at my university and they were absolutely great guys. Friendly, polite, and a few of them are still among my best friends. I guess they made such a good impression that it was a big part of the reason I first came to Korea. Unfortunately I haven't made such close male friends in the time I've been here, but then I could have made a lot more effort to do so.

Oh... I used to work on Cotton farms when I was travelling around Australia. Anyhow, at this one place we always seemed to get Koreans coming through.

My first impression and it is the same impression that I still have is that they are completely sexually segregated. Girls are girls and boys are boys.

The boys on the team we had few problems with. Although, they were known to just stick in their headphones and ignore the gang. Which used to infuriate our ganger. This Aboriginal chap called "Ernie" who would just go crazy at them. Jeez it was funny. Ernie would be like "You gotta stay in line... Fucking pay attention!" Just losing his nut.

Anyhow... We used to have girls. Ever seen Korean girls with a hoe in hand walking up and down rows of cotton chipping weeds in 40C heat. I have. It's not a pretty sight. Ernie would fire them. Usually after about two hours. He'd lose his nut. Grabbing the hoe and going. "Fucking do it like this!"

Actually- There was one Korean girl who come over and gave it a good bash. Did well. She was really trying in her English, unlike the others and while apart from the gang one day doing other work she actually said... "Anytime you want use my body... Come to house."

She was a good lass.

As far as I can remember, my first Korean was in college. Her name was Sung-hee and she was this hermit type of girl who only came out of her room to go to class. If she had to leave her room for anything else, like say food, no one ever saw her with friends who weren't Asian (actually, they were probably other Koreans, but I didn't know that at the time), and that was when they saw her with anyone at all. She was basically a loner. And I remember someone telling me that Koreans are "just like that" and that they keep to themselves pretty much.

That has NOT, however, been my experience so far in Korea Smile

Hmm back in final year of high school 8 years ago. the korean girl in question had possibly the worst acne i have ever seen in my life (possibly as she worked nights at a fish and chip shop). the other guys kept sniggering that she was in fact the famous screaming naked napalm victim from the Vietnam war photos.

i also remember she would giggle and do the shy asian thing which generally endeared her to no-one.

I thought all korean girls looked were like here till i came her more or less.

The first Korean I met was a girl. She was great! She was nice and sociable. Another Korean girl was this ugly, whiny annoying person. But not knowing anything about Korea, I didn't think, Oh God, Korean girls are such b###es! I just thought, Wow, that girl is such a b####! My first gig in Korea, the men treated me sooooo well. Imagine my surprise when I met their wives, Tweedle dee generate and tweedle dum- ination, and my bosses. It all went downhill from there.

First one I ever met was a fresh-off-the-bihaenggi kid in my grade two class, Steven Kim...

All I can really remember was on his first day's introduction when the teacher asked where he was from, and he replies with much gusto: "Korea!" (you all know the gusto I mean, right?).... It wasn't really significant then, but in retrospect, it all fit so perfectly... That's all I can really remember of him, although I think we may have been buddies... I was only 8, so I wasn't really human enough to form memories yet... Cool

I try to think of the impression that I must have made on the other kids, and sorta groan and get that sense of massive embarrassment in hindsight that one is awash in during these situations.. :D

The first korean guy I ever met....

One day back home, I was in the supermarket gathering the ingredients for my special ceasar salad. It was taking a ridiculously long time since i was as high as a fricken kite...i loved smokin' a fatty and hitting the supermarket imagining all the great dishes i could create - kind of a hobby of mine. Usually though, I would end up spending 10 times more money than what i planned because everything would look soooo good.

Anywhoo, as I was reading the ingredients on the jar of some pickled beets a man beside me quietly asked, "excuse me, do you know where i can find the produce section?" With blood shot eyes I turned and gazed at the stranger. Dark bushy eyebrows, thick glasses, goofy smile. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Not the first Korean I met, but one of the first Koreans I met "in-country" was this guy on my first day here. I walked into an LG store looking for an adapter for my laptop.

After some gesturing we figured out they didn't have what I needed.
He walked me 2 blocks away to one of those dodgy little stores. It was closed so he walked me another 2 blocks and we found a plug adapter. It was only a couple of thousand Won but he tried to pay.

I paid, thanked him and he was on his way. That encounter set the tone for how I feel about Korea. (A little bored with the food choices once in a while..but I love it here...)
