Yeah I don't think your 'true' personality necessarily comes out when drunk.
It can sometimes let you see some interesting sides of normally uptight and socially repressed koreans. It's also funny to see how the next day at work everything goes on as usual with no mention of the drunken debacle the night before Laughing

Sun Tzu didn't say the truth comes out when you're buzzing on psychotropic drugs. I totally agree with you there. But I'll respectfully side with the master regarding alcohol.

I just met a Korean girl who said "I don't drink because I'm a Christian?"

Whats with that?
Moses, the ONLY guy God saved among millions later (according to Genesis) invented wine.

The man himself JC, is reported to have turned water into wine so those at a wedding party could get well and truely hammered.

I'm sure there is something else in there about its good to "party at a wedding and rude to refuse the wine at a wedding party" not sure about that though,

Anyway I can certainy understand peope deciding not to drink, but where does this "cause I'm Christian" bit come from??
It seems inconsistent with the Biblical stories of Moses and Jesus, two relatively important Biblical people.

And just curious... whats the Book of Mormon say on the subject?

It comes from the idea that alcohol leadsto, and is associate with, a lot of bad things and as a Christian, one shouldn't condone those behaviors.

For example: most people go out to bars to drink. Why? To pick up a date and take them home for sex. Christians wouldn't condone this.

Example: alcohol can lead to people doing things they normally wouldn't do: fits of rage, wife beating, sex with a stranger, etc. Christians believe that it is better to be in control of your actions.

These are just general reasons. I'm sure there are more, but those two came to my mind first.

Well thats a bit of a generalization, but yeah that is why I drink Wink
But I have known people who drink a few to relax and socialise

If you believe the new Testement, Jesus by turning water into wine is surely giving his stamp of approval to drinking booze??
I mean, if he thought Booze was the social evil that some Christians believe it is today....surely he would have turned water into Orange Juice or the ancient equivalent of Diet Coke. Milk? Did they drink Milk in those days?
If Jesus made booze, how can someone claiming to be his follower say that it is wrong?

It seems to me that a Christian ban on drinking is inconsistent with the Bible. I honestly can't fathom how being a Christian should limit what people do in their free time. The Catholic priest I had while growing up drank some wine every Sunday.

Mormons prohibit drinking, (but then they also have a thing against caffeine too. Go figure). Christians don't prohibit drinking. It's possible some of the more conservative varieties FROWN on drinking to excess. But that's not the same thing as all-out banning.

Here are some quotes for you:

What would Jesus do?
"The Son of Man indeed comes eating and drinking..."
FREE BEER FROM THE FALSE CHARGE OF "DEMON ALCOHOL"!
(Ask Yourself: Did Christ partake of demons?)
God gave man wine, to make his heart glad. Psalm 104:15
http://members.aol.com/Dbix7/beer.html

Conclusion
Now that you have an understanding of what God thinks of drunkenness, never again can you "party on" without having a clear knowledge of the guilt and damnation you are incurring for the coming day of judgment when Jesus Christ will cast unrepentant fornicators (e.g., those who engage in pre-marital sex, adultery, pornography, homosexuality, etc.) drug abusers, and people who get drunk, into hell.

Surprised no one has mentioned cigarette smoke yet as a reason to stay away from bars and clubs.

I just can't stand the smoke at drinking places and the stink on my clothes when I go home. Too many damn people smoking...

Not that I've given up on alcohol entirely, however. These days, we just bring some beer and soju to our cafe and drink in front of our customers surreptitously. We get a nice buzz, and our customers are none the wiser. As an added bonus, my Korean gets better when I drink.
