Does anybody know if there is GSM phone service available in Korea?
Most phones in Korea operate on a CDMA system, but I wonder if there is any GSM service at all.
My old KTF phone is kaput, and KTF won't sign me up for a new number till August 21st, so I might try to use my Nokia phone that I brought with me from Thailand.
Please share your info if you know anything helpful.
Cheers,

For the benefit of anyone else who has a GSM phone:
You can rent a CDMA phone at Inchon that will accept a GSM sim card. As long as your carrier has a roaming agreement with KTF or SK, you will be able to use the rental phone just as if it was your own.
You can also buy the phone but it's a crappy old model and overpriced. |

Yes, it is a crappy old model (but at least a chocolate bar and not the shell phone type). I bought one at the airport for 200,000 KRW and it works very well, even if the phone is limited in function. As more realise that now you can roam in Korea, perhaps more development will be done, or better phones adapted. |

It's not quite as simple as that. As agraham said, you have to rent (or buy) a CDMA phone with SIM interface and of course demands a roaming agreement with your home supplier. |
