Old or not...first come first served. Especially when it comes to ajummas! They get nothing from me!
Just because someone is old does not entitle them to special whatever. I've seen many older folks who are just as obnoxious and ignorant as younger ones pushing their way through the golden years just because they think being older gives them the right.
Sure...if I was older and the situation were reversed...I'd appreciate the seat..but I would not "stink eye" someone because they wouldn't give up their seat.
Besides...I'd hate to admit that I needed the seat because I was elderly!
I'd be insulted! I want to be young until I die!
Respect is great...but it's a two way street. And most seem to forget that. |
I agree !! make them stand, if they can climb the mountains they surely can stand on the subway. |

I think we should give our seats to old folks. It would suck to be old. Now us kids want to take away their one perk?
Plus a lot of old folks really can't stay standing for long because of thier old joints. That's why they're always sitting around in the parks smoking instead of standing around like us! |

| chiaa, my wife fears to sit in the old folks seat, simply because some old guy will freak out on her. I think that most old folks should get a seat, but some of them would grab you and throw you out of the train just to get your seat. Big cultural difference I guess, respect is given not earned here in Korea. |
I agree that one should give up the old folks sea without question. But, when there are no old folks and the seats are available, what is wrong with sitting there? That is what a lot of Koreans do not understand/ agree with. To me, it is better sitting there all by myself for half my ride (as with my luck, a senior citizens center will board the train shortly after taking the illegal seat) than having some dude's hips rubbing up on me. |
Yeah, I get that, and my wife and I have experienced/seen some rough situations like that. Several empty car-end seats, and some old guy going wacko because some young person is sitting in ONE of the 6 seats avaiable for old folks!! Ignorance and rudeness in one package...
It is a really unreasonable situation though, and arguing with individuals like that is not at all useful. Knocking them down is fun, but you lose sympathy for it. Saw a story on the news several years ago, old guy yelling at some middle school boy. So the boy yells back, flips out on Grampa, chases him through the station and the old man fell down some stairs and died. Boy goes to jail, think he pushed him. Wierdest part was the boy's family was with him and they couldn't calm him down I guess. |

I sat in the handicapped/old people seats several times. I have a bum knee and it is difficult for me to stand on the subway.
Only once did I have an old man give me some crap...there were other seats available but he started in on me.
I just grabbed him and pulled him down onto my lap and held him like a baby. Cracked everyone on the train up including him. |
