I just realised that my computer won't allow me to download anything from HTTP sites. P2P downloads are still flowing just fine but everytime I hit a download link in Mozilla, I get the message "This object has been blocked." and in IE I get a "403" error.
I can't figure it out. I have checked my security settings in both programmes, my firewall settings (Zone Alarm Security Suite and XP), my adaware software settings (adaware/tea timer, spy sweeper, spybot, spyblaster, and pest patrol) but I can't find anything to remedy the problem. It appears that something is running on my computer that is stopping the downloads. Is it possible that this is an SP2 problem? I read on themexp.org that some sp2 users are having problems with that site.
Any ideas about what I should do? |

STRANGE... it has started working again after I fiddled with Zone Alarm a bit more. Now I just have to figure out what made the difference.
I hate computer problems. They're problematic because they encourage my obsessive nature, which means I sit in front of my computer until I've figured it out. I've spent entire weekends just working on my computer when things go awry!
Is there anyone else that is like that? |

Yep....totally.
With computers however, it is a mixed blessing. As the problems arise and are dealt with, one is able to hone their problem-solving skills to the point that obsessing over their roots ends up taking less and less time.
That said, I couldn't help you too much when you had that USB problem, so perhaps I am still a n00b. |

Yeah. I especially enjoy wiping the hard drive and re-installing everything. I built a second pc so my wife wouldn't suffer when I'm doing it. That was fun. Then I was bored again. No insidious viruses, no mysterious hardware failures, no joy. I have Ghost 2003 but I can't bring myself to installing it.
I think I might try learning Java online and try writing some programs for myself but I can't think of one to write so I have no motivation for that right now. I learned Basic on Amiga. That was hours of fun and challenging problem solving. |
