I have the opposite problem of most people here. I need to change Windows XP from Korean to English. I can get as far as Control Panel --Regional and Language Settings...
But I can't read the menus from there. I'm pretty sure I'm in the right spot, but I don't know what English-US would like like in Hangul. I guess the best help would be to show me what English-US looks like, and if you could tell me exactly which tab to hit and which buttons to click to get there, I would greatly appreciate it. I've been searching for this for hours, but I can't find the exact way to do it!
Please help! |

The tech forum is a better place for questions like this, but here's what they'll tell you:

Sorry, but you can't change the language of Windows at all. You have to reinstall, and yes I know that sucks. |
If it helps, it's not that hard to get a copy of windows in English here. |

If you bought the computer here, usually if you ask, they will install eng version for you. Go back to the shop and ask them for it. |

The exact way to do it is buy Windows XP English or asked at the time you bought the computer to have them install Windows XP English. There is simply no magic button that will change your Korean OS to English.
If it was that simple, people would buy $10 Thai language copies of Windows XP, install them, and then switch them over to English.
So think of putting only one language on the OS as a sort of DVD regional code system. It allows Microsoft to charge with the language users will bear. Thais aren't going to pay US$120 for an OS but the English world wi.. |

I think that people have been misunderstanding the OP. I think that he just wants to change the display language. In other words, get the button to display as "Start" etc. That can be done but I don't know how off the top of my head.
Changing the language of the OS is obviously impossible since Korean is a double-byte language and English is single-byte.
The OP should clarify what he's trying to do. |

I don't think you can change the language of the buttons via any simple process. I believe that is also part and parcel with the OS. I can't see the OS having Ok, Cancel, etc set up for every language represented in the regional settings or even having a local language (eg Korean or Thai) with some built in hidden English setting. |

Nope, it can't be done.
The only work around is if you have Office 2002 or later and then you can customise menus by right clicking over them and renaming them. But that's only one suite of programs. There is no way to change the OS language without buying a copy in that language and installing. |

I've known people who've changed the display language (I'm not talking about the OS). In other words, they got Windows to display messages and menus in English. My understanding was that English was the only option other than Korean. It was a few years back so maybe things have changed. Then again, these people were Koreans who were able to read the user manual. |

Yep. Mine is in Korean too. You can't change it. You need an English copy of Windows. I posted this in the Tech forum. Search for it and see what is there. |

Technically, these are known as MUI versions (multi language interface) adn they are usually only sold to those purchasing hundreds of licenses at once i.e. businesses. |

Sure, yeah, I'm sure he has them. Just thought I ought to nail any hopes to anyone that may have been considering getting a MUI legally without spending more money than they earn in their entire stay in Korea... |
