I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for gifts to bring over for people I meet there. First, is it customary to bring gifts? For who? Should I bring my school director a gift? What?

I have been to other places where it was customary to bring gifts. I ended up bringing the totally wrong things.

Any ideas?

I brought my director a bottle of bushmills whiskey, some Irish cds and a bottle of liquer. Hard booze as in good quality whiskey, brandy etc is deemed expensive here, so a good bottle of plonk and a cultural souveigner would be a recommendation of mine!

You're in Washington D.C., right? That's not too far from Tobacco country. Bring a few nice cigars.

Nice hard liquor is also a good idea, and it doesn't have to be that nice. A $15 bottle of Johnny Walker is good and people here think it would be much more expensive.
