|
|
Thought this could be a thread where everyone could warn readers in advance so that they might be prepared for their journeys.
Remember, when going to these places, pick up that pack of toilet paper that can be purchased at most convenience stores.
My first weekend in Korea, I went up to Namdaemoon Market where before my eyes, for the first time, I saw these filthy monstrosities(sp?). Wasn't quite sure how to go about using one but everything turned out okay.
If you're going to this market, find other buildings, open to the public, such as banks and office complexes, etc. with more modern toilets.
Where have you all gotten stuck using them? Bars, temples, hiking trails, etc. |

Isn't the right terminology "Everything came out okay?" |

Saw my first around three hours after arriving in Korea, when they dragged my jetlagged butt into the hagwon to meet the director. I think I put my head against the stall door and sobbed for ten minutes. |

I deal with them any time I have to use the restroom at my hagwon. They wouldn't be so bad if there were something to hold on to... |

I had a girfriend back in Canada who always squatted when using public restrooms, for hygenic reasons.
Here in Korea I only wish there were machines selling tissue for 500 won instead of having to tote around t.p.

Squatties are good to use.
If you get the technique right the stuff just slides right out.
Ona seater it doesn't come out as well.
No joke |

Well, this thread wasn't really supposed to be about methods of usage.
Simply places foreigners frequent that may have them.
Let's be on the lookout, folks. |

It pays to look!!
I needed to use a toilet at Gupabal. I saw onyl squats so I moved on. I decided to look one last time, and there was 1 normal toilet (albiet no toilet paper) and the rest were squats.
Lesson to be learned. Look at all of them. |

I don't know about you, but squat toilets have saved my life many times. Seriously, in such situations, you can't be picky. Take what you can get and be happy for it. |

noraebangs, bars, random places in insadong....
they were not much of a bother for me, even the first time i used them.
i prepared myself mentally beforehand and had a 'plan of attack' mapped out.
it's not just the squat places that don't have tp...
even the western-style one's are hit and miss...every toilet is hit and miss..
but if u sprinkle when u tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie =) |

I have used squatters in a variety of locales. Don't mind them as long as they are clean (rare).
I think it was just over 4 years ago that I saw the what had to have been the worse toilet in Korea. A jonnie-on-the-spot that looked like it was about 50 years old and featured a squatter on the inside
To quote Lala "eeeeewwwwww". |

Usually, that if their is TP missing in the squatter, you can usually ask the businesses on the same floor for some. They usually reserve it for their clients. |

Thats no fun...just wiggle your ass up into the sink and turn the faucet on to clean your starfish..
Its spectacular and the reaction can be pretty interesting when its one of those unisex washrooms. |
