Greetings!

My coteacher (yep I'm GEPIK) asked me to find a play for our students (5th and 6th grade) to perform at our public school's talent show. Now it's up to me to find it and figure out how to make it happen. Cool

OK, a few specifics.
the auditorium is small with seating for maybe 150
the play needs to incorporate 20 students on stage (using the kids as moving rocks would be fine)
the stage is only a foot off the ground and the aisles are wide so the kids can run off the stage and through the crowd without problem.
the lights can't flicker or change color so nothing huge can be done with them and the sound is the same way.

I'm thinking about doing a scene from the Princes Bride, Grease, or Shrek but I'd like some more ideas. Please help!
I would suggest you look into a children's play like "Charlotte's Web" or "Beauty and the Beast". Why? The language is easier, for one. It's a story that has an easy concept to grasp. And working with students that age, they can be very hesitant to play another "person". But playing an animal or a fairy tale character can be much more helpful. Also, you can use the video of the story as a teaching tool. This would fit your purpose and your space.

Hey Falstaff,

Try this site

http://www.geocities.com/pocolocoplayers/child.html

the plays are on the site, and can be printed off.

If that doesn't work, you can always have the kids try to create their own play around a story book theme.

Cheers, and good luck.

Just a quick idea...what with Halloween just around the corner pick something spooky the kids will love that.

Hansel and Gretal...easy English, small set, limited vocabulary. Great story to hold the attention of all.

You could use some of the children as cookie children that the witch has already caught.

Lets see there is Hansel, Gretal, their father, wicked stepmother, the witch. You could even incorporate some students to be forest animals that try to warn Hansel and Gretal about the witch. Too bad they dont speak squirrel or rabbit Wink add in someone or sometwo to narrate the story and you have a simple play that can be enjoyed by many.

Hope this helps.

Rocky Horror picture show................................ But seriously a musical might be up your street as you then have chorus parts for all of the kids, you could pick a section with lots of talking and easy big numbers like bugsy (hours of fun with splurge guns/ pies) or some gilbert and sulivan (Prates of Penzance). Have fun whatever it is......

*Edit* P.S. We did a really good play based on the 12 days of christmas at school, basically the kids are the gifts and the woman gets more and more enraged by these random presents I can't remember what the title was but in the end she ends up using lawyers to get a restraining order........

Rocky Horror! LMAO.

I'm trying to imagine some of my students doing Rocky Horror. Oh sweet God.

Then again, put a long haired wig on me and I could double as Meat Loaf. . . there's a scary thought for ya.
