I have been wanting to pick up this sport for a while. Does anyone know where I can learn to surf while in Korea? Thanks.

has to be the East coast- deep water and big waves, in sharp contrast to the west. You could try around Seokcho or Pohang.

you are many things rapier, but a surfer you obviously are not Laughing japan blocks any swell coming from the east as does the phillipines much earlier on. it can't come from the west coz there's nowhere for the swell to gather pace, a little place called china is in the way there......

that leaves the south. as mentioned earlier places in s.e asia get most of the swell before it has time to reach korea and that which does get through hits cheju. but not much cop there coz the reefs aren't set up right.

if there was any swell anywhere in korea worth surfing i'd be on it but alas.....it's japan or indo or the phillippines in these parts....not korea Crying or Very sad

You can get some budget waves a day or so after a storm.

I saw James Bond surf into North Korea in his last movie though Smile

Ha ha ha ha ha

As a surfer from way back there is absolutely nothing here at all.
Japan has a little but not worth travelling for.

Jeju has nothing, i went there to check the surfing, nothing.

There's surfing in Taiwan I know that. Went down the east coast on a trip one time and there they were. A stretch of beach and boards and a surf shack. You should go there. I heard some guys get jobs along the east coast cities just to surf.

Hey...Hawaii boy here who grew up surfing and loves to surf. But...not in korea! Never! Especially in Jeju! No waves! Oh...what koreas call waves are not waves except for saying bye bye!
I do manage to get a few rides in during the typhoons that come to Jeju. Here I was out surfing and the cops try and stop me from surfing! I don't listen well anyway...but the winds were strong and a few waves around made surfing ok for about an hour.
The east coast area...Sea of Japan? No surfing to speak of.

I found a board on the roof of a building in Itaewon in late 1995!!! still got it!
Anyway, there is surf to be had on the East coast. South of Seokcho there are a couple of spots that I've seen 5-6fters breaking out far enough to have some fun. For a for a fella from East coast USA, they were looking pretty good.Unfortunately I never made it out myself, but I did see a couple fellas riding.

Came over a couple of weeks ago.
I brought my board not expecting too much but just in case I get a chance for a little jaunt to "surfing country". Smile

Little did I know it was going to cost me $75 domestic and $90 international. (fortunately was upgraded to first class on the international portion so didn't have to pay.)

I've heard from several people now that there is "some" surf on the East coast. I'm in Anyang-si so I don't expect to get any surfing in until vacation time.

If anyone near Anyang/Seoul has a board and is heading out anywhere drop me a line if you want some company.

Met a guy a couple of months ago walking past my house carrying a couple of boards. He had just come back form the east coast catching some waves from swells pushed up from various typhoons in the area.
Told me, that there are some half decent rides about you just need to know where to look.
Which I don't, so end of story.
