>. This is a WARNING to anyone considering taking on a "job" w/ this outfit. From the Dictat ... errrr ... right ... rather that is supreme "Director's" perspective, you're bound to find your "contract" best used as a "time to wipe" toilet supply than anything which even-handedly defines the terms of employment.
Perhaps not coincidentally, they're not making the huge amounts of profit they'd hoped to either |

>. An update for those of you who've been asking about how things were progressing. Following the recommendation of friends, rather than get greedy, and gamble on a favourable formal legal handling of my case, i opted for inner-Hagwon arbitration. As it stands, it seems we've managed to strike something of a conciliatory deal. On Friday, i finally got of a triplicate signed copy of our terms.
According to what we "agreed" upon : 1 ) I'll retain the rights to my return air fare; 2 ) Will receive only 5 months of my 10 month total severance; 3 ) Working my last day on the 30th, i'll contribute 400,000 won in rent until i vacate my apartment at the end of June.
While he's flip flopped on the issue a number of times now, last i was informed, my director might even give me a letter of recommendation. While this is all fine & dandy, truth is, given what i've recently read on a related thread, i'm still a little concerned about his possibly cancelling my return fare through the airline company and should really take immediate preventative steps.
Ultimately, the whole thing has been quite the learning experience indeed. One word of advice in discussing / negotiating w/ Directors : you gotta play hard ball; if they see an opportunity to screw you, rest assured they will. Also, stand your ground & speak if you so desire with passion & conviction but don't ever go so far as to actually snap & lose your temper.
Oh yah, as far as this particular Hagwon goes, be careful. One thing I'd strongly advise against is taking your chances & going in blindly with a cheeseball ( Cya later ... thanks for the finder's fee ) recruiter. If you want, clearly present in person your terms in English and don't ever settle for second best.
On a scale of 1-10, even after all the Director's puffed up BS i guess i'd honestly peg this outfit at about a 6 or 7 |
