my friend is going on a visa run and its been so long since i went on one that I cant answer his questions.
His flight is on Sunday night and he is return flight is leaving Osaka at 6pm on monday. Will this give him enough time to process his visa and get to the airport? What time should he be at the Korean consulate?
I remember when I did it I got a 7 or 7.30 flight and would not have made it, but I did not get to the consulate until 12.
Will he make it? Also what does he need to bring to the consulate?

He'll have plenty of time. I made it to the consulate by 2pm on my run and my visa was ready for pickup by 4pm. I was on a one day run.
Check out the Osaka run thread. I posted some extra instructions to help find the Embassy and updated some prices for the visa (5,000 yen for Americans, 6,000 for Candians, Brits, Kiwis, Aussies).

Thanks for the reply praireboy. If he gets there before 2pm (say at 10am) will he be able to pick up the visa earlier than 4pm. 2 hours seems far too short to get from the airport to the plane. |

There is an entire sticky thread at the top of this forum about VISA runs to Osaka. You might want to read it first before posting a question that will be answered there many times, or at least there will be links with the information you need.
If your need any help, I did this a while back and I compiled very detailed instructions on how to do it. A trained chimp could do this run with my directions.

kprrok,
I did read the thread, hence posting a question which the thread did not answer. Do you know the answer? If you do maybe you could tell me... |

Can you pick up the VISA early? maybe. But not too early. I got back to the Consulate at about 3:40 because it was raining and I was tired of walking around in it. They got back at about 3:45 with the VISAs and I took off. It takes all of about 40 minutes to get to the airort, so 2 hours is plenty of time. Just don't dawdle.
If you go to the sticky thread, my directions are posted there. All of your questions should be answered. If not, let me know.
The Osaka Airport has got to be one of the dullest in my opinion, so be glad there isn't much time to kill there.
I apologise for my bluntness and rude attitude in my last post. I was having a bad day and I just needed to vent a little steam, and your post was the easiest to do that one. My apologies.

I was there last week and they said I had to wait until 4:00 p.m. However apot on 4:00 they handed them out, it took about 2 minutes. Heading back you could walk to the station in about 7 minutes of power walking, buy you ticket in the machine and from there it's either 35 or 45 minutes to the airport, barring typhoons. I'd say you'd be cutting it more than a little fine for a 6:00 flight, but possible. There's an Asiana flight at 7 which would be easier to catch. |

Thanks for the help Kprrok,
All the above threads are about people getting the morning flight so not making it to the consulate before midday. If my friend gets there when the consulate opens (9am?) than can he get his visa before 4pm. His flight is leaving at 6pm so it seems a bit tight to make it to the airport and all the red tape in less than 2 hours.
thanks |

I wish I could remember if I had gotten my visa earlier than usual. On my first run, I was in Osaka for 4 days meeting a friend, so I just popped out of the hotel one morning and hunted for the embassy. Got there really early and I do know that I had to wait, but I'm not sure if I was able to pick it up early or not. I want to say yes, but I don't want anyone missing flights over the advice, either. |

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe that regardless of when you drop off the paperwork they will not give you the visa until 4 pm. When I was there a couple of months ago there was only one window for E-2 visas (at the very far end of the counter). I believe that there was a sign that said they accept applications from 9-11am (but I am not absolutely certain). I was there with a co-worker at about 3.15pm, and we stood at the window, hoping our presence would irritate them enough to just give us the visa. It didn't work.
The good news is the express train is fast, and runs on time, and at least when I was there checking in and going through customs and security was a piece of cake. |

One of the posters in the FAQ suggested getting your train ticket BEFORE you go to pick up your visa. I think that is good advice - you can knock off a few minutes that way. I bought mine in the morning so didn't have to worry about a line or any delays. |
