i spent some time in Korea during the summer of 02 (by far the best time of my life, i might add). and i looked around and couldn't for the life of me, find anything remotely close to a rock climbing gym. do climbing gyms for sport climbing/bouldering exist in Korea? i know Koreans have a rep for mountaineering, both alpine and trad, but sport climbing? haven't seen or heard anything at all. any veterans who know their way around Korea seen one or any cool spots for outdoor climbing?

and by gym, i mean the kinds u can find in the US/Europe/Aussie land. NOT the little one at lotte world that the 6 yr olds climb. thanks!

Yes, there are some, several I think. One for certain is at the end of the 4 line way up in Dangodea. You can see it from the elevated subway.

Y'know what I find odd? I've seen the rock climbing walls used as a decorating theme a few times here, and watched a guy get yelled at for trying it out.

www.bigbungee.com has a high wall and a 4-sided bouldering wall.

I think I saw one coming into Seoul station on the KTX, I think it must be somewhere near Sookmyung women's university. It looks immensely high and varying in difficulty, I've been meaning to check it out.

yeah, i live really close to that one; unfortunately we have been unable to locate anyone associated with the wall, and have never seen anyone climbing on it.

also, as it is an outdoor wall, it is useless to us mon-fri because we both finish work after dark Sad

cheeky monkey, or anyone else for that matter, i'd love to go climbing, but haven't in years, so my level is prolly pretty low at this point. anyway, if anyone is looking for a climbing partner, let me know!

yeah, princess, there is actually a chance that my partner may be running off to another country for a few months, so if that happens i will need a partner to climb with (provided we ever find a gym!). and don't worry, i am just a beginner...

There used to be one about 3 1/2 meters high across the street from my old hagwon. Laughing

It was just a wall next to one of those tiny roadside "parks" that isn't really a park. I was amazed. They got rid of that sort of thing in the USA long ago -- they just scream LAWSUIT!!!!

Yet another reason why I sometimes feel like we have more freedom in other countries.
