|
|
For those interested in learning some basic Korean, there is a new program on EBS called "Hello! Annyonghaseyo".
It's broadcasted every weekday from 7:35 PM on EBS, but you can watch it online too. You do need to register though... It's all in Korean, and there's a seperate button you need to click for foreigners. But at least you don't need a Korean resident registration number to be able to register
One of the people presenting the program is Richard Harris, who wrote 'Roadmap to Korean'. |

Thanks for the link. Its a hell of a hassle to sign up though. It wants you to have a 'foreigner registration number', and as I am not in Korea and dont have one I had to make up a fake one (which managed to get through). |

I know Richard Harris speaks 1000 times better korean than me BUT
from the little of the show he speaks korean with a pretty noticable canadian accent. I'm not criticising the guy, just an observation. It shows how hard it is to drop your native accent I guess.
Stephen Revere from ArirangTV's 'lets speak korean' seems to have a much more korean sounding accent. |

I would like to add that you can't view the videos in firefox - the screen is blank. Bad design.. build your site to be viewable in more than stinky IE |

I have never come across a Korean site that works well in Firefox. As I visit the Korean book sites daily, it is amazing how much flashy crap they use and do not design it so it can be used in Firefox.

It's almost like they have never heard of any browser other than IE. What is even more amazing is that some Korean company hasn't made thier own browser and heavily marketed it here. I'm sure that it would become ubiquitous very quickly. |

Yeah right. It would be about as stable as that Hangul word program. I do not allow the wife to put it on any of our comptuers (I guess she agrees as it is the only time I am allowed to throw down some thunder). |

Well I just watched epsiode one and I'm a little unclear on the concept. Why Richard talking to me in slow English with hand signs like I'm a child? Hey Richard, I already know how to speak English.. it's Korean I'm here to learn.
And why does that Korean woman keep explaining how to speak Korean in Korean at full speed? Who is she talking to? Koreans (who I presume already know how to say "hello" in Korean)? Or me?
And what's with spending twenty minutes teaching me how to say "hello" and then giving me this for homework: "Today I'm resolved to study Korean with all my heart." What? Why don't you just assign me the Korean I Ching while you're at it? |

Right, but why in baby-talk? When my french teachers were explaining something in English, they didn't do it in care-ful-ly e-nun-ci-a-ted Eng-lish and wave thier hands around. Maybe he's doing it unconciously after years of teaching Koreans to speak English. |
