So if U.S. Army let's me use all my leave days, I can get out and be finished with this military stuff at the end of January.

Also, I am getting my Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications at the beginning of January. (mostly done at nights after work through distance learning) I work in Communications in the Army but I've drawn bored of it and really am just looking forward to finishing up the rest of my time in my 4 year service contract.

I've lived in Korea for almost 3 years now and really like it. This Saturday will be my 1 year anniversary being together with my K-gal too. I'm 23 years old and I was just wondering if you guys think there would be any difficulties as far as me staying here and teaching...?

Well any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is your degree a 4 year degree? Is it from an accredited university? How did you get your degree (Online, long distance study, on base?)

Congratulations! It's nice to see that you've created opportunities for yourself outside the miitary, now that you have completed your service. It would be a damn shame if you were to be shipped off to Iraq to face the BS going on there. I'm currently in the process of securing employment in Korea as an English Teacher. I plan on attending Teachers College and am using Korea as a means to travel, make money to pay for Teachers College, and also to gain some teaching experience. If such are your desires then I say go for it! But bear in mind that you need a degree from an accredited University or (I think) College. If your military education is recognized as an equivalent then you're laughing, because, as you said, you like livng here and if teaching is up your alley than I suspect you will find this a rewarding experience. Good luck and I wish you the absolute best. It must be tough devoting such a length of time to the military so far away from home.

Get in the "Troops to Teachers" program. Why waste your life in korea at a hakwon for under 2 grand a month when the Federal Government has the best deal going for former soldiers. Pay is starting at over 40K a year.
Having a K-girl is not a reason to remain in korea.
No..I'm not bad mouthing korea...just the facts. While you may enjoy it it korean, that's great. But you asked for advice/opinions and so here it is.
You obviously read the postings and already KNOW about hakwons and living in korean in general. You might adjust well to a hakwon or it might be your worst nightmare.
Any difficulities you might encounter....no more or less than what others have encountered.
Or better yet...the best deal in korea is at DODDS! You get hired out of country and you're set for life! Housing, moving expenses, etc.
Far more better deals for soldiers than having to deal with a hakwon owner!

I wasn't aware of these things. Hellofaniceguy raises some good points. I guess its up to you to decide. Go with your gut feeling, but take into consideration the advice offered in this forum. The people that give input here offer reliable insight. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses, about if my university is accredited then yes but not regionally so I don't know if this will be a problem for me when trying to get a visa...

"Accrediting Agency: Central States Association Council on Distance Education, 4401 Connecticut Avenue NW, Suite 205, Washington, DC 20001
Accreditation Type: Institutional
Accreditation Status: In good standing
Due For Renewal: 2006"

So yeah, if I can get a visa and job with my degree then I'm definitely gonna stay to save more money and I think it would be a good experience before I go back to the states.
