Hi! How many of you lovely foreign ladies are married, engaged, or nearly engaged to Korean men? Those of you who have had children in Korea, any advice?
I'm Canadian and I met my Korean husband 2 and a half years ago (right before I was set to travel and then head back home), and we got married in August. No babies or pregnancies yet, but we're thinking about getting started early next year.
Anyone else care to share some of their story? |

Hmm, not all korean parents are like that, especially not with their sons -- but lots are, I guess. In my case, the parents were pretty hesitant at first -- especially the father -- but when it was totally accepted, they wanted us to get married right away (we didn't -- we waited until my mom and brother could come).
You're lucky they've accepted you so fully!
Aren't you going back to Canada soon? Or is that just for a visit? My then-fiance and I did a month long tour of Canada last winter -- it was absolutely amazing to finally be the one showing him around! |

Y'know, this Korean man/foreign woman foreign man/Korean woman thing is being done to death. I think it's about time we heard in lurid detail about Korean women and foreign women. |

Well, the second part would sure be interesting but I do never get tired of stories of women finding sweet love with a nice Korean man. Bring 'em on. |

I always figured the one leverage you have with the k-rents are "Canada will be a nice place to retire to in your golden years to spend with your future grandchildren..."
I know if I married a Korean woman, I'd natually take her parents and providing in some way for their future retirement as a package deal.
My friend (who I call "The Heiress" because she's the only child in her family and stands to inheret some massive Chinese importing/exporting/manufacturing business) is a Canadian born in Taiwan. She went back to Taiwan a number of years ago to study Chinese. She met this Korean guy who was also studying Chinese. She deflowered him. She quite liked him. Felt he was very sweet. Anyway, she moved back to Canada and he went back to Korea. She'd write him letters. She thought it was funny she wrote him a couple letters but he hadn't answered one yet. But guys get busy...
Finally a letter came.
It was from his dad. The dad wrote to her telling her never to write to his son ever again.
The end. |

Korean men, been there, done that. They can be great, but I never met the right K man, now I have met the right man, so no more dabbling about for me. |

Congratulations!
We got married just over 2 years ago. I'm Belgian (I guess I must be the only Belgian on this board...), met my husband while we were both studying in Japan. The first year of our marriage we were living apart, I had to finish up my studies in Japan, and he was working here. No kids yet, and ALL the relatives we met at Chuseok kept asking us why we didn't have any offspring yet after 2 years of marriage... Hopefully they won't need to ask us next year |

I kind of hope to be pregnant for Chuseok next year! Peppergirl, are you working outside of the home at all in Korea? Are you a teacher?
I'm actually taking a break from teaching and studying right now -- my husband and I are about to move to Daejeon (and in perfect Korean style we don't know exactly when, or definitely IF) so it isn't a good time to find a job!
Also, have any other wives tried much Korean cooking? These days I do most of the cooking (since I'm at home, and he works late late late -- hence our desired move to Daejeon), and about 75% of what I make is Korean or semi-Korean. It isn't as hard as I thought it would be. I've heard that there are excellent cooking classes available in every district for very little money, but I guess that seems just a little too ajumma to me! |
