Ok, so recently Christina, I , and a few selected friends have been looking for chillout alternatives to the regular bar/club hop.

This has led us to a new group of friends/acquaintances here in Seoul, who are connected to an alternative 'entertainment' scene here in Seoul - the An-myun Island party, a Drum Party, and - just this last Saturday night - to an underground travelling chillout rave party. (candles, massage, check your shoes at the door, ska-jazz-DnB-ambient music artiste-y event).

These type of places, and special events, seem to be coming into their own, but we only know of 2 right now:

Chez Vous in Itaewon (website at http://www.chezvous.co.kr)

and the Liquid Lounge in Hong-dae (sorry, no link available - it is just 1-2 buildings down from the Ska bar, also on right-hand side, 3rd floor)

Honorable mentions go to Brian's cafe (Universalis) in Hong-dae (really more of a laid-back hangout, but a great place nonetheless), Our Place in Itaewon (and not just because Denz & GoD's after-wedding wedding was held there) and Once in a Blue Moon jazz bar (85-1, Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul).

So, if you have a cool, funky, chillout/lounge type-place to add into the mix, please post it here.

Regards,

Glen

Only time that I wish that I lived in Seoul is when I read stuff like that.

this is the thread i've been looking for. i am seeking an alternative to the mega-club atmospere. i've only been here for 3 months but i want to find the equivalent to toronto's green room..

i really liked "ska" in hongdae. i went to a cutie bar in itaewon that is up one of the side streets perpendicular to the main drag, where you go down some stairs and it is a really cool vibe with a big palm tree and reggae-ish music.

'deam on' bar in sinchon had some great records, thousands upon thousands of them, lining the wall behind the bar. very social atompshere without the meat-market feel.

anymore?

Well, there is that one bar in Hongdae, but that's the secret bar that I don't even know how to find, let alone can name. You know, the one with the pond in it.

Shhh!

Yah I know that one. Starts with an "M". Very out of place in K.
And yeah, a shit of a place to find unless you're with someone in the know (thanks Bob)

by "Pond" do you mean small swimming pool? The place with the beds in it?

I'm picking up rumours lately of a place on the Sinchon/Hongdae border where you have to take your shoes off before you go in and they play chillout stuff. It's called "No Boundaries" apparently

Spaghetti test 'em, bro.
Toss them against the wall and if they drop to the floor, they're fine for one more day.

Shocked Help! This thread has been creepily hijacked!
Confused

I've known the Ska crew of 5?6? years now, and they are good folks, with one of the best dj's I've known, for crowd feel.

When in Song-tan a few weeks ago, we saw a club had broken down & bought a foam machine (the kind they do bubble foam parties with); they say they will break it out next spring, but I am trying to arrange for a club manager friend of mine to borrow it & do an event up here in the semi-near future.

If you guys can't or won't post the M bar place publicly, please send it to me via pm. Wink

I've been to a couple of cool teahouses in the In-sa dong area, with mini-streams, birds, waterwheels, koi ponds . . .

I miss these kinds of places from, well heck! - just about every other country I've visited. Evil or Very Mad

Buried in the alleys of Busan was an Indian restaurant that fit the bill perfectly, as well.

Regards,

G.

if you're around Insa-dong there's a perfect little place. The only way I know how to get there is to go all the way to the end of the street (opposite side to Jong-no), turn right and walk down till you see a really small alleyway just past the police station.

Walk down this alley and you're in a back street, then there's a plain white (?) door. Very, very chilled out, low ceiling, good music, whiskey/soju/beer/food, sit on cushions on the floor.

Sheesh I'm giving up all my secrets today.
