I posted this over in off-topic, but figure it could use a reprint here, as this is where a lot of the ESL gamers hang out:

Heya - ran across this site by accident; had actually seen it years ago, but forgot.

Called Gosfish Games, it is a site for freeware/abandonware/shareware games only. MOST will run on older/crappola systems - good if your work gave you a good-for-naught computer, and you can't play online games like at the Shockwave site.

Go to the link, and set the search for 4* rating; that will give a list of 4 & 5 star games. All are small downloads, and in the .zip format (you will need a way to unzip them; I suggest the outstanding CAM UnZip program, found at http://www.topshareware.com/CAM-UnZip-download-10149.htm)

Yahoo Korea Kids pages also have a ton of free games, and some of them are pretty strange - like making mandu for customers, or ddung-based games. http://kr.kids.yahoo.com/game.html

A LOT of ooollllddd games here - some stuff I haven't seen since my Commodore 64 days . . .like Montezuma's Revenge, Planetfall, Irving & Byrd Go 1-on-1, etc.

Many are available for download (I just dl'ed Sacrifice!), but they have a 1-at-a-time dl rule.

If you are an old-school gamer, and esp. if you use BitTorrent, check it out.
