so after work today at about 5:30 I decided to go for a little skate around the back streets of my neighbourhood. Coffee and skateboard in hand I cruised around for a few minutes when I decided to put my coffee down and fool around on a couple of tricks. A middle aged Korean man comes up to me and take me over to my coffee cup pointing at it. I was very confused but I guess I had put it on the very edge of his business property. He seemed sorta angry and kept asking me where I lived and my phone number. I had no idea why he wanted to do these things and asked him why?, but he just kept asking me in a testy tone of voice. Of course, I thought that he wanted to do so that he could harass me or something...maybe because he was mad at me skateboarding or having put my coffee cup on his property. I politely said goodbye in Korean and proceeded to walk away when he said, "hey" and motioned for me to come over to him. His wife came out and they said "copee...you?" They invited me inside and I soon discovered that they have a 20 year old daughter in University and they want me to give her private lessons. So weird...

I guess you must be new here. It is an old Korean custom that if you put a cup of coffee on someone's property, you have to marry their eldest daughter. Very Happy Very Happy

Rubbish.

It's a cup of tea. He was asking if the cup contained coffee or tea.

Really though... Some of the ajeossis could use a lesson or two on how to not be so gruff... I've never been anywhere else where a request or proposition could sound so .... pissy (for lack of a better word). Not that there aren't other places, of course- I just haven't been to them.
