There are 2 kinds of lies: lies by admission, and lies by omission.
(Admission is when you say something not true; omission is when someone 'forgets' or 'leaves out' something true).
Generally speaking, the types of lies are gender divided - men tend to lie by admission; women tend to by omission. No real surprises there . . .
However, I think it would make an interresting study: kinds of lies for expats living in other countries (not just visiting/traveling).
Just a thought.
As for me, I am 36/37 (western/eastern&Native), but I do not look it at all. I am not shy around westerners, but will make them jump through hoops, via guessing. Because I look younger, I don't mind it (my real age) at all.
Other cultures are different - like most of Asia & other conservative countries: being over 30, unmarried, no kids, no previous marriage, not gay, etc. invariably causes very harsh opinions, and often leads to questions which - answered truthfully - lead to ever-souring feelings.
Usually, I just tell people I am a Monkey (true in most of the higher senses!!!); that would put me at either 24, 36, or 48. If they can figure it out, first guess is almost 24. Again, I win.
Women? No point, really - when I first got here, no one dismissed me because of age (mid-late 20's, single, good personality, good sense of humor, good looking is a winning combination here); now, it probably would happen occasionally, but there is still a big range of women who would date or ONS me, and certainly more than enough fish in this big ol sea.
Job? Absolutely agree with the above posters - no point at all in lying (either kind). That being said, if I was apping for a new job cold, I would be sure a very recent, color, close-up picture was seen before my passport was, if I couldn't interview in person first.
Regards from my rocker,
G. |

| I'm a fairly youthful-looking 13 Celsius. (More credit to good genes than to good living.) I never divulge my age, to the frustration of the locals. I prefer to move through this life on the basis of my strengths and my foibles, and avoid the one-dimensional judgement call that comes with a number. |

| I lie about my age all the time in the classroom. When the children ask me how old I am, I tell them that I am 1,253 years old. Of course, they don't believe me but it is fun to hear them argue the case in English. It is a way to trick them into using numbers and pronouncing the higher numerals. |

No prob. We need all the angels we can get. But, speaking of stealing, if you are the one who stole the moon, I see it has been returned, so I am no longer concerned with that topic.
