I am looking to do an intensive study-abroad program in Korea for three or four months this coming summer. I would be at the intermediate level. I am looking at Seoul National, Sogang, and Yonsei but also would kind of like to get away from Seoul for a more unique experience. People have recommended Inje University in the south, it's in a town of 2.5 million- I know, SMALL by Korea standards. Some people have mentioned a university in Taegu (I forget the name). I would really like a private, intensive program especially for grad students or very motivated undergrads (much like Princeton-in-Beijing, or Associated Colleges in China, the program I did), but I can't find anything like that in Korea.

I also heard there was a Buddhist university (maybe in Seoul, though) that had a Korean language program for the summer. Maybe it starts with a D?

Thank you for the advice!

Bonnie

i studied korean at a daegu university called keimyung university. the programme was dodgey- they charged a reasonable amount it think about 8,000 won per hour which you had to pay for three months up front for a certain number of hours and you got a 1 to 1 tutor. The bloke kept trying to speak english every class and we did a lot of what they call 'free talking'- he did the talking and i was meant to just absorb it. after two months of torture i was about to complain and i found out that the guy was a volunteer! talk about dodgey!

Hmm, that Taegu school does sound dodgy.

Does anyone have any recommendations for intensive summer Korean study? Any well-kept secrets outside of Seoul?

Hi Bonnie

This may be what you are looking for:

http://www.geumgang.ac.kr/en/index.html

It's a Buddhist Uni, very new, and very isolated

It's outside of Daejeon (outside of Nonsan)-

It's a beautiful school very peaceful, they do have international students.

Good luck.
