So I was riding from ↑ to ﰢ. I stand on the train (only 2 stops), honestly, I did nothing to attract any attention. The Korean guy next to me hit the handgrip, swinging it in my direction. I don't know why, so I looked at him. Then he did it again. So I did it too. I dunno, fun game? Strange to me.
Then, at the next stop (Ա), it looked like he was going to get off the train, so I halfway turned around, to see what he was doing. He then smacked me in the back of the head, and then darted across the subway car.
I went after him, and started yelling in Korean ' ?' to get everyone's attention. He then said 'f you' and tried to smack me again, but couldn't. I called him a bunch of names, in Korean and English, commenting on his lack of education, lack of *beep* size, and some others. We were coming up to ﰢ and I needed to transfer.
So I go to get off the train, and he tries to smack me again. He just grazed my head. I went back onto the car, and the doors swung open again. He ran to the other side of the car. I called him and then he came to the door of the train car and kicked my hand. Then he ran away again, and I entered the car again, and the door swung open again. I needed to transfer, so I got off the train.
After that, a Korean man approached me and apologized for his actions. He said in Korean, 'I am ashamed of what he did.' |

I have similar luck.
I've been either swung, assualted (pushed hard), or spit at 3 times in Korea.
Countless events of name-calling too.
Only difference is that now I understand some of what they say. |

Fortunately never had any nasty experiences like this. I guess I'm lucky.. the worst I've had is a couple of weird stares from people.
Sorry about what happened to you. There are ignorant ar$ehole in every country, most Koreans though are nice enough when you get talking to them. Just remember idiots like him are in the minority. |

A friend and myself were on an elevator one day at a downtown office building when two young bucks got on (office workers) and one immediately made a comment in Korean about how he wished those "disgusting foreigners would just get out of Korea." I reached over and hit the emergency stop button and simply said "You should be very careful what you say....some disgusting foreigners can understand you." I then stood between the button panel and him until he apologized....he did and then we rode quietly down....
but never been assaulted physically....not yet |

Yeah, that bites. After a few years here, I finally developed an all purpose scowl. Keeps away noisy children, old people and foolish young bucks. Now only the crazy bother me.
For whatever reason, usually not through their own fault some people attract trouble here in the ROK. Had that happen to a couple of friends, so don't feel bad Ilsanman. |

if it's any consolation at all to you.... it's probably a fact that his entire life has been one long tortuous ordeal.
And it will stay that way.
He can't escape the crap in this country that made him the sorry little man that he is. |

I won't lie, and say I have never brought something onto myself. I have. I am sometimes a shit magnet, like Itaewon guy, but this time, I was not doing anything.
I don't have a Canadian flag sewn on my backpack, like so many Canadians do, but I have a small pin. It is the Canadian and Korean flags together. I guess he didn't see it, or didn't care.
I put this one in the karma book. But then, why do I feel so bad? |

There must have been something in the air that night, I had some fella shouting abuse at me for absolutely no reason. Sad git. I laughed at him, which made him scream even more, bloke was in his fifties, drunk, bitter ~ you know the type. I would have been more upset about it if two minutes later I hadn't met the typical jolly 'welcome korea' taxi driver. The positives always outweigh the negatives in my experience. |

Just recently I had some middle aged weirdo shaking his fist at me and scowling. I think he was trying to scare me. I just blew him a kiss and smiled, and he pretty much flipped out at that, great laugh. Then I had to get off at the next stop ... |
