there have been alot of whackos coming out of korea!
but you know koreans they dont like to gamourise like we do, who has never heard of MANSON, DARMER.. In korea they had the MANSON killer type but in the late 70's this cult religious freak killed about 20 people!
there have been others, many of the decades, I just forgot the stories,
most young koreans wouldnt even know about it, probably most koreans wouldnt, you know with korean press and all... but I had a good souce, this guy knew all about seriel killers, from around the world, and In korea!
there have been a lot of brutal things in korea, inthe world for that fact..
but the world hasnt really seen darhmer, manson since the 70-80's and thats probably the world over.. of course we still have our nut cases..
like that korean man last year, kidnapping his 4 year old girl, neighbour, then chopping her up into pieces, then cooking her and pulling a darmer!
the cops asked him why he did it, he responded! CUNYANG!!
that had me messed up for weeks after seeing that on TV and papers!
probably because my daughter was 4 at the time...
poor parents!... having your child die is one thing, but having your child die that one is another!!

The movie is called "Memories Of Murder" and is hot on the box office. It drawing more people than the crappy X2(no offence but the first one was waaaay better IMHO) right now. It is the best korean movie i have seen in years. Better than JSA.

The Hwa Sung serial killer killed 11 people from 1986 to 1996, all women. It is the most famous unsolved mystery in Korea. There's a 50 million won for prize on him! So anyone interested might give a try.

The killer Itaewonguy is talking about is Choi In Gu(40). He kidnapped and then killed the girl right away. He told the police he was going to ask her parents 5 m won.

Last year there were 2 young guys in Seoul with a big credit card debt. They made their car up like a taxi and went around picking up girls late at night (probably drunk girls) and demanding their ATM cards and codes. Then they beat them to death with a bat and stored them in the trunk. Surprised

I was teaching lawyers at the time and it was the hot topic in class. Of course, it wasn't in any English language paper in Korea. Would hate for there to be anything negative about such a perfect country. Then no foreigners would want to go there. Rolling Eyes

Offtopic, but isn't it midterm exam time right about now? I know most of my students aren't watching XMen 2 because they're studying for exams.

I was sure to remind them that it's a classic American comic story originally...

This is an odd thread to resurrect.

Still, the movie is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memories_of_Murder

Where were you a few years back when the guy who murdered all those coffee girls around Seoul and Ilsan was arrested, escaped and re-arrested? Shopping for your five-yearly change of clothes, or bin dipping?

No, due to crusher_of_heads disruption of past history by bumping this thread, the movie magically metamorphed into The Chaser.

Mr. Bum-Kon Woo, a Korean in 1982, carried out the largest known "spree killing" in modern history, though I don't think that is what people are talking about here. Number 2 on the list, Mr. Seung-hui Cho of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Memories of Murder (살인의 추억) is a good movie, with an unsolved ending. Kinda rare for murder mysteries
