no they're not, kind of confusing, can be frustrating when you forget whether you're supposed to click or hold the controller.
I tried the I-Pod in a shop and it seemed really intuitive.
you only get confused for a while though, it wasn't a big factor in my decision of which one to get. |

Can you transfer picture files off a computer and onto your IPOD and still play music and have the pics just stored there? I have heard that you can either use it as a portable hdd and just store files on it or use it strictly just for music. Was wondering if anyone could clarify this for me if this is true?

| You can do both at the same time- itfunctions just like an extra hard dirve when hooked up to the computer, you can store anything that will fit on there, but the only things that will actually work from the player itself are audio files ( I can store movies there, but I can't watch them from it) |

Thanks a lot to all those who have been answering all these questions. I have two more.
-can you transfer music directly from ipod to ipod or ipod to iriver?
-it seems that some models don't support WAV files. Does this mean you can't rip a CD directly on to the player?
Thanks again! |

no idea about moving files from ipod to iriver- doesn't the ipod have some weird licensing requirements?
irivers just play files, you put a file on their, if it can it'll play it, no licensing nonsense.
iRiver plays .wav, these are uncompressed (i.e. really big) files, most/all CD-ripping programs will auotomatically convert the stuff on your CD to this format first and then compress that to a (compressed) MP3 file, often it'll do this without telling you about it and just give you the finished MP3 (or .ogg or .wma, or whatever). |

Hey man,
What do you dislike about the IPODS? This would be very useful to know before I buy. Anyone else got complaints about them? Let me know why you don't like them and what problems you've had.
Cheers!

hmm...what do i NOT like? the fact that i paid CDN$340 to buy the 3g 15gb model. also, since my pc doesn't have a firewire port, i had to spend an additional $45 to buy a usb-ipod cable. since my main use of the thing is for the car, i had to buy the itrip fm transmitter plus a car charger and the podpod cup-holder, which added an extra $120 to the total cost. but i did score a free exoskin case out of the whole ordeal...
don't get me wrong, it's a great little gizmo. but if i knew what i know now before i made the purchase, i don't think i'd do the same.
my advice to anyone interested in purchasing an ipod:
do your research before you buy it. know what functions you want your ipod to serve and then look into how much those specific peripherals will cost you. |

Hey poddubny,
Never been an apple fan because of all the extra costs they always seem to incorporate later. Was checking up on the ipod extras and found a lot of them are not Ipod Mini compatible. What a surprise! Hey, do you know of anywhere else you can download books and listen to them? Some people must have put them in MP3 format . I have never bought Apple products in the past, but this seems to be the only available thing that covers most of the requirements I need and costs a decent price. Hmm... decisions.........decisions...

yeah i asked the same question in another thread a while ago. here are a few sites listed to d/l audiobooks:
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=27958
most of the sites will have their e-books sub-categorized under the 'miscellaneous' section. you won't find a whole lot, but at least you can get some of the more popular ones out there... |
